My first student film. Surgery days before, frequent hospital visits during and the never-ending pain of my wound and (still) torn ankle. Wasn't easy.

It's been a while since I posted, and this is why. 🏥🤕💉

Was diagnosed with skin cancer in late August, and went in for surgery mid-September. Healing is slow, and I could end up permanently scarred. But no matter what, now just staying strong! 🔥♥️

I already don't use them because of their business model and I think more people need to stop using them. But I've been attacked in Facebook groups by actors defending Spotlight when I've suggested doing so. When people are desperate, it can be very hard to change their minds about something. 😢

But they won't do that. They like having a monopoly over how people apply for jobs in the entertainment industry in the UK, and that's exactly what this is about. A monopoly, run by greedy business people who know people have no choice but to pay.

If Spotlight ISN'T an employment introduction/matchmaking service, then they will stop forcing people to pay to apply for jobs, right? Then the services they charge for will just be if you want to have a profile on their website (which is completely fair.)

For example, petitions don't change much themselves, but one could at least raise awareness and force the government to address the BS claim that Spotlight isn't an employment gatekeeper enforcing a tax on hope. That would be a start!

Such total bollocks. If you, as an EMPLOYEE, want to apply for JOBS with EMPLOYERS on Spotlight, you HAVE to pay their UNREGULATED fees!

I hope @equityuk.bsky.social (Equity - the official union of people in the entertainment industry in the UK) consider every possible legal avenue to fight this!

Pardon my language, but this is COMPLETE BS. If Spotlight DOESN'T provide services that connect employers and employees, then they need to stop advertising that they do. And if the DO provide that service, they need to be held accountable under the laws that govern such services!

Exactly! And I think that's what Jiang Wen was really aiming for, natural, in the moment performances. If an actor can trust the director and can really believe in themselves and be confident in their own instincts, it can really bring out some truly unique and authentic performances! 🎬🔥
