Plans to leave refugees in a state of perpetual uncertainty about where and if they can rebuild their lives are not just performative cruelty, they are counterproductive to integration and the economy. It doesn’t have to be like this - 1/2

Also notable that the Tories are on 7% with people under-50. In fifth place. And only 4 points above the SNP in sixth (who obviously only stand in Scotland).
Notable in today's YouGov that the centre/left bloc - Lab/Green/LD/SNP are on 54%. With Reform/Tories on 43%. That's the biggest differential in a long time.

I think useful to track blocs given instability between parties at the moment.

It is possible to cherish the BBC as an institution while also saying that BBC News is failing very badly, day after day, in its duty to inform and that it always fails in a right-wing direction. It desperately needs to recover its integrity

Sky News says police are "overwhelmed by the numbers". Met coped perfectly well with 2x as many at the pro-Gaza rally, 5x as many at the anti-Brexit march, and 15x as many at London Pride.

They're not overwhelmed by the numbers. They're overwhelmed by the ratio of violent thugs in those numbers.

Not going to pretend today wasn't depressing but the far right has been stronger in the UK before. Mosley packed out Earls Court and was backed by several large newspapers. Enoch Powell had the support of 74% of the population.

Musk has a net popularity rating of -52%

The effect of the new data bias and fog in the US will grow over time. To begin with, you can filter out the bias and fog with the long history of good data. But over time the usefulness of this declines as the new bad data accumulates.

A typically lazy column from Ganesh that just restates his priors without any engagement with the actual policy.
The welfare revolt does *not* prove that Labour MPs are "constitutionally incapable of making hard choices".

It proves that they will not just wave through hugely damaging changes, that harm those most in need, on which they've not been consulted.

That's MPs *doing* their jobs, not abdicating them

The government's welfare legislation is falling apart in real time. Now the four-point rule is being axed from the legislation. The one remaining big cut in the Bill is the slashing of Universal Credit health payments by 40% for new claimants

If you're looking for a weekend read, I think our study on who is turning their backs on Labour and why is quite interesting: yougov.co.uk/politics/art...

But to add some extra notes...🧵
Top 5 reasons why nearly half of 2024 Labour voters have abandoned the party, just a year after the election

1. Have broken promises: 29%
2. Cost of living not improved: 24%
3. Have been too right-wing: 22%
4. Have made no difference: 21%
5. Immigration too high: 20%

As it's in the news again - this is the post I wrote a few months ago on why the disability benefits bill has been going up.

Essentially, you can't remove need by removing support - it just pops up as a cost somewhere else.

Treasury minister tells Wales to "be grateful" for the money given to it over rail funding.

It shows total disconnect with reality.

For the record, the Treasury's own figures show Wales is getting £350m compared to Scotland's £4bn!
