My first @dkmarxsoc.bsky.social conference in the books. Today’s keynote by @brosef-stalin.bsky.social was definitely one of the highlights of the weekend. Learned a lot & got to meet so many great people. I’ll definitely be back!

Glad to hear! I would highly recommend Alia Al-Saji's writings which I cite in the article. Their work on Fanon and the politics of time is simply unmatched.

It's not a particularly pathbreaking contribution, but it does try to bring together some of the existing literature on Fanon and temporality to outline a distinctly Fanonian critique of colonial time, while tentatively considering embodied forms of resistance through the term "temporal defiance".

Amazing, looking forward to this one

My favorite companion text so far has been Stuart Hall’s ”Signification, Representation, Ideology: Althusser and the Post-Structuralist Debates” (1985). Definitely worth a read.

Question for Marxists: We're reading Althusser's "Ideology and Ideological State Apparatuses" in our reading circle next week. What's one companion text you'd recommend to make sense of Althusser's work on ideology?

Very much looking forward to this!

Thanks Johan! I think I have the Thompson book but never opened it for some reason

We just finished reading some Gramsci, now doing Althusser, and then some Poulantzas and Stuart Hall.

Thank you! I have the Verso edition so will definitely read Balibar's foreword at least.

I guess it was only a matter of time that I have to actually read Zizek. Thanks for the recommendation

The board and membership of the Helsinki University Association of Researchers and Teachers (HUART) has successfully voted for the academic boycott of Israel! This is the first Finnish academic union to commit to the BDS campaign.

If you work at University of Helsinki and belong to the HYT/HUART union please take part in the upcoming vote on the academic boycott of Israel. It takes place on September 2nd at 5pm!

When movements call for the boycott of entities clearly complicit in genocide & settler-colonialism, we should do just that: boycott. Participation coupled with symbolic gestures of support is not solidarity. It undermines the cause & legitimates colonial violence.

Does anyone have access to the current issue of Polity Journal? There's a few articles in there engaging with Cedric Robinson's work that I'd really like to read.
