The most unselfconscious sentence I've ever read:

"It is a librarian in a pair of horn-rimmed spectacles, snobbishly shushing the workers outside."
(About the EU)
Snobbish, is it?

Europe, in the year 2025, is what NPR would look like if it ran a continent.

DJT has never been interested in a thriving Europe - he has said so himself.
So, why would anyone believe a word of concern for Europe, coming from his administration?
When they say we shouldn't do X, then X is something they think is hurting their interests, not ours.

Breaking --- Plans for Peace in Ukraine Almost Settled --- Few Details Remain

(which are exactly the details that have been open since the start of the war, the ones where Russian demands and Ukrainian vital interests are diametrically opposed)

Say what you will about Trump, but his loyalty cannot be bought. He is not loyal to anyone or anything.

That is exactly it.

The problem with centrists is that the center is on the wrong side of history.

Communication that is not grounded in facts but only in the effect it has on the receiver becomes irrelevant - noise, in information theory.
And so, anything coming from US institutions under Trump becomes noise and a rational agent should disregard it completely.

Yeah... Let's talk about each other's policies...

It's so good to see that enough people in the US still care about legality and the lives of non-Americans for the boat strikes to become a real problem for Hegseth.
I couldn't have predicted that.

Totally possible, but... Why would anyone believe anything the FDA says, these days?

Maybe Obama's greatest sin in office was /celebrating/ killing bin Laden.
Killing a vile human being who is a danger to innocent people without a trial, in a foreign country without that country's consent, outside of war may be defensible, but you should lament having to do it, not celebrate it.

Anybody remember when this guy told us, by 2199, people will have darkened the skies to starve AIs which relied on solar power?
That seems much less unlikely today than it did then.

The EU didn't break the internet. Industry did by not coming up with a solution to privacy choices that don't require a cookie consent form on every website.

Words have meanings! 'Terrorism' must at the very least pursue the spread of terror, that is, fear.
That is not what drug cartels are doing in the US. They may, at times, in other countries, but in the US, they're actively trying to maintain a low profile.

Don't let them muddy the waters!

What's the most benevolent realistic explanation for Trump's attempts at peace diplomacy in Ukraine and Israel?
November 16, 2025 at 8:25 PM
Turns out whatever makes him a dumb asshole of a person is also what makes him a terrible US president by all objective measures.
Who on earth would ever have thought that?

Who else is getting multiple scam 'PayPal' calls a day?
I mean, it's good to waste their time so they can't use it to call someone more vulnerable, but damn this is getting tiresome!

"You can count on the Americans to do the right thing...."
It's so weird seeing Americans defend the filibuster and racially segregated districting as the sacred guaranters of freedom and democracy when they're just band-aids over the most glaring holes, which barely hurt less than they help.

Donald Trump has pardoned 1.600 people in his second term. He has explicitly said that he doesn't know anything about some of them.

How can anyone let him attack Biden's autopen pardons?

Is it cruel to ask a spam caller how they would feel about someone stealing from their mother like they're trying to steal from you?

That's what I just did, and apparently I drew blood, because they called me again, a minute after they hung up, and cussed me out.
