Animal lover (I have 1 cat ATM, but love cats & dogs in general). I watch entirely too much TV, love movies & books. I almost always have podcasts going. I crochet better than I knit, & I’m eyeing macrame. Obsessed w/Greek mythology.

Today, @hbomax.bsky.social airs their new documentary "Thoughts & Prayers" on the $3 billion (!) shooting-preparedness industry and the way the US has pursued moneymaking rather than effective policy change to keep kids safe. @thepom.bsky.social reviews it here: www.the-pom.com/p/review-hbo...

Please watch HBO’s #ThoughtsandPrayersDoc. It’s infuriating, it’s depressing, but really shines a light on how little we’re doing to prevent more shootings, and instead throw money at the “preparedness” industry even if it doesn’t really help. Get angry and vote.
This $4 billion industry profits off of America’s school shooting epidemic.

“Every time there is a shooting, we see an uptick in business,” says one, featured in the new HBO documentary Thoughts and Prayers.

Hopefully she’s found quickly and not given as much leeway this go around. She planned and executed a murder plot that was only thwarted by her victim surviving long enough to be found and rescued. You shouldn’t get a second chance so quickly after that.

KYUK is a scrappy public radio station in Alaska. When Congress went after NPR, public radio stations like this one took the hit.

It broadcasts to indigenous people living in the tundra, and without public funding, it's facing massive layoffs.
In rural America, public radio saves lives
In remote Alaska, public radio station KYUK is crucial during natural disasters. Without federal funding, how will it survive?

Dwight D. Eisenhower was right: a political party that lacks a moral and just foundation is not a party at all; it is a conspiracy to seize power, plain and simple.

Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.
