"The logic of canceling this project that would answer questions [fishermen] have... kind of escapes me,” said the lead researcher, calling the termination ironic.“We’re not promoting offshore wind; we’re collecting data about offshore wind and trying to better understand potential impacts.”

A project that would've studied how offshore wind projects affect commercial fish species is now dead in the water after the DOE funding cuts. A New Bedford fisherman who was set to participate said he joined the study b/c he wanted answers on impacts on the species he fishes.

Offshore wind’s effects on fish won’t be studied due to federal cuts - The New Bedford Light
The canceled study, which would have employed New Bedford fishermen, is one casualty of $7 billion in clean-energy funding cuts in Democrat-led states.

Yesterday on the approach to JFK, I spotted Empire Wind’s construction progress. Lots of transition pieces are in:

The Interior Department agency regulating #offshorewind development asked a federal judge on Thursday to allow the reconsideration of a key approval for the SouthCoast Wind project. If approved, it could deal another blow to the beleaguered project.
BOEM to consider revocation of SouthCoast Wind approval - The New Bedford Light
If a federal judge approves the request, it could deal a critical blow to the offshore wind project located 20 miles south of Nantucket.

Clarification: BOEM has asked to re-open/reconsider its review of the permit. Depending on what they determine, it *could* result in revocation or an approval with different conditions attached to it.

🚨BOEM today filed a motion to remand SouthCoast Wind's COP approval. This reflects the significant role lawsuits against offshore wind projects are now playing in the efforts to halt project development. This suit was brought by the Town of Nantucket:

In recent filings for Revolution Wind, the fed gov discusses possible remand of the project's COP. This isn't entirely surprising, given the mandated review of pending litigation, but this is the first I've seen it discussed explicitly for Revolution Wind: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

With all the activity and orders, I'm glad to have this resource to monitor it all in one place. We've updated our offshore wind tracker, again, with the latest information you need to know about the status of projects in the Northeast @newbedfordlight.bsky.social newbedfordlight.org/offshore-win...
Our offshore wind tracker: What’s new with wind projects off Massachusetts and beyond? - The New Bedford Light
At The Light, we’re closely tracking these large-scale energy projects that stand to impact New Bedford, its workforce, its economy, and its storied fishing industry.

“[Trump’s] view of the presidency is, those people who are subordinate to me are going to follow my instructions,” the judge said. “Given the president’s view, where does that get you? He’ll tell [agencies] to deny [permits] and they will, b/c they have to follow orders”: tinyurl.com/2yp7vjsj
Judge skeptical of Massachusetts’ offshore wind suit vs. Trump - The New Bedford Light
“Given the president’s view, where does that get you?” asks Judge William G. Young about the multistate request to strike down Trump’s wind memo.

17 states are about to argue that Trump's wind memo is unlawful + must be lifted. Since the last hearing in June, the Trump admin has taken 12+ actions against OSW, incl. a stop-work order on Revolution Wind, and plans to revoke approvals for 2 Mass. projects. @newbedfordlight.bsky.social

Ahead of Thurs. hearing for @massago.bsky.social suit, here's a comprehensive review of the actions the Trump administration has taken against offshore wind since Jan., and the impacts they've had to date. Let me know if I missed any @newbedfordlight.bsky.social newbedfordlight.org/trumps-war-o...

“This isn’t about abortion. Medicaid has never paid for abortion,” said Julia Kehoe, CEO of Health Imperatives. “What this is is punishing organizations that provide abortion... This is just one more assault on the programs and people we serve.”
aelennon.bsky.social
The nonprofit organization, Health Imperatives, is one of only 3 organizations nationally that have been named by the federal government as being "prohibited entities" for reimbursement. The other two are a family planning clinic in Maine, and Planned Parenthood. Why?
aelennon.bsky.social
A week ago, MassHealth informed a health clinic that serves thousands annually across Southeastern Massachusetts that it may no longer bill Medicaid for its services. These include cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, contraceptives, and emergency shelter housing for victims.

Vineyard Wind is now operating at 27% power (and aims to reach 30% within a week). Here's our approximation of construction to date since the project stopped sharing detailed updates in April. At least 40 turbines are in, a mix of fully completed (new blades) and those needing blade removal:

As Vineyard Wind has ramped up construction this summer, the project is now sending power from 17 turbines to the Massachusetts grid, up from four in May, according to a quarterly investors report released on Wednesday.
