After a much needed rest, I return! It’s a difficult time for activism. So much going on, only so many hours in the day.
This is such a good idea! Let me discuss with some folks, maybe we can get this going.

I often see comments quoting MLK Jr. from folks using his legacy to emphasize building bridges and working alongside state actors who actively oppress marginalized communities. But, as many experts have emphasized, there has been a “misappropriation and white-washing” of MLK’s legacy in the U.S.

The pain and suffering still happens, you just aren’t sitting with it. You exist with your own exploitation, and carry the burden of others’ as well. When you realize that you can no longer do this, it is painful. But only then can you contribute to a better world.
It’s exhausting and overwhelming to not be ignorant, to open your mind and be dedicated to learning more. But, a quote that always sticks with me is:

“The unexamined life is not worth living”

And it’s true. To be ignorant is to live a meaningless life.
Do you know how much easier it is to not know things, to be ignorant? You don’t have to consider the pain and suffering happening in the world because you’re so focused on yourself. You don’t have to think about the failure of capitalism and what comes next. Or how you’re being exploited under it. 🧵
Do you really think that we can defeat fascism in this country by being picky about who we're working with? I'm not advocating working with groups who directly contradict foundational values. But, say you disagree on what action will be most impactful. So what?! Do both. Help each other.

If this can be proven, it shows deliberate intent to create a hostile work environment. Which, even in this nightmare scenario, is still illegal.
As the spouse of a longtime federal employee, this is exactly what life has been like for them over the past four months. It's infuriating to watch the administration belittle the federal workforce like this and to see so many brilliant people leave because they just can't take the abuse anymore.
White House officials wanted to put federal workers ‘in trauma.’ It’s working.
Federal workers describe struggling with panic attacks, depression, suicidal thoughts. “Why doesn’t anyone care?”

I feel like the "The Rent Is Too Damn High" guy was on to something.
The average rental prices for studio apartments in New York and Miami are two to three times what one person earning the median income in those cities can afford. Here's a look at where else renters will struggle to find budget-friendly studios. nyti.ms/3HuI2E8

The Rocky Boy Reservation is being directly harmed by this. Folks, this is in OUR STATE. People are going hungry and losing access to critical food resources. Don’t be a ‘savior’ - ask them what they need and do it. We have a collective duty to do so.

Trump Pledged to “Make America Healthy Again,” Then Cut a Program Many Tribes Rely on for Healthy Food
The USDA has ended a program that dozens of tribal food banks say has helped them provide fresh, locally produced food that is important to their traditions and cultures.

While this is not exactly what Angela Davis had in mind, it is a valuable question. Canadians are already boycotting U.S. goods. We have an opportunity to dismiss arbitrary divisions of country and build a transnational coalition of solidarity.
It made me think critically about the current movement in the U.S., of which I am a part of. How can we connect our struggles with those across borders? The first that comes to mind is Canada. Our once strong allies are angry, but so are we. Can we work together, to boycott and fight back?
One example brought up is the relationship between protestors in Ferguson after the killing of Michael Brown, and the Palestinian activists in the occupied Gaza Strip. Recognizing the tear gas being used against Ferguson protestors, Palestinian activists reached out to share their knowledge.
Just finished Angela Davis' book, Freedom is a Constant Struggle. The biggest thing I took away was the interconnectedness of our struggles, and in turn our solidarity and liberation movements. 🧵
Folks with the ability to put themselves in these situations… can’t we at least start pulling the masks and sunglasses down so these people can be identified?

Successful movements require multiple forms of action. Yes - prepare for a strike. But right now, today, tomorrow, for as long as you can, PRESSURE your reps. There needs to be a wave of dismay about this bill that can’t be ignored.
But GSUS is decentralized and independent, and are every day people doing the work? I don’t think anything’s gate keeping. My understanding was just that the website was on the flyer but it wasn’t associated, not that the strike shouldn’t happen if not associated w GSUS.
They’ve put out reminders that it isn’t being organized by them.
I don’t think this is being organized by @generalstrikeus.bsky.social but their website is on there.
But not organized by GSUS right? That’s what they’ve said.

Another reminder for everyone: we are not organizing the General Strike being called for June 6-10. It’s totally fine if you want to participate. We noticed that our website was being put on the flyers, but we as a coalition are not organizing it.

Stay safe!

Remember: politicians (yes, even democrats) exist within a capitalist system. They legislate at the whims of corporations.

In 2012, Cory Booker’s net worth was $476,000. In 2018, it was $807,000. Today, the estimates are in the millions. These folks are not working class Americans.
Just a few weeks ago people were pitching Cory Booker as a front runner for the 2028 Dem presidential nomination.

Tonight he was the only Senate Dem to vote to confirm Jared Kushner’s convict dad as ambassador to France.

Sheesh.
