Carried-by-bike (and BART): another bike frame and parts.

I love that I can ride a flat ~30 mile loop between Oakland and Richmond mostly on bike paths (Bay Trail -> Richmond Greenway -> Ohlone Greenway). Sometimes I add the RSR bridge for lunch at Sol Food, sometimes I ride up to Point San Pablo harbor for lunch at the Sailing Goat.

Trainer brought me a Cheese Board cheese roll (to our workout this morning). Bay Area 👍

One mini-resolution: to not buy any new things this month (food and events are fine).

Walked for a while yesterday along the Ocean Beach Park promenade (opened-to-recreation section of Upper Great Highway in San Francisco along the beach)— saw hundreds (if not a thousand) people out enjoying it, including many families with kids wobbly biking/scooting as they practiced.

Reminded how much I like using bikeshare while traveling (recently, in Portland, OR). Both for the ability to sightsee at a casual pace, and for the convenience of biking from A to B one-way without always having to bike back (if it rains, if I change plans).

I’m sitting in the Oakland City Council meeting for final approval of this project to build 448 new units of housing on the four acre former CCA site. 7 years of process and debate about doing this. 🧵

Another casual errand run to four shops by bike (from a few weekends ago): seedlings, yard waste bags, milk & coffee, weatherstripping for door repair. No time wasted looking for parking, and rode at a leisurely pace on a sunny day.

My least practical hauled-by-cargo-bike was 9 cubic feet of potting soil (~240 lbs) for a garden bed— I only had to go a few miles but it was slow and unstable going— I wouldn’t do that again without a trailer. These days I’ll pick up 3 cubic feet of compost along with other garden center purchases…

Another carried-by-bike from the past: case of mason jars + two sacks of ripe fruit from a local farmers market, Oakland. (this ‘longtail’ cargo bike is an old xtracycle edgerunner I’ve had for ~8 years, but I’ll run errands on any bike)

Amusing things I’ve transported by bike, exhibit 1: hay bales, as event seating. (not sure how much I’ll post on bsky, going to try using it to stay connected with interests such as bike/transit/climate/bayarea)
