I grew up rural Michigan, and I want to share some info about farms today in hopes that some of you will rethink your meat and dairy purchases. You determine farm conditions with your dollar!

Like all good friends, if you're in Michigan and have a free day, I will take you to Detroit and show you The Fist.

I picked this up in the foyer of Abe's Coney Island in Ypsilanti, c. 2001.

I can hardly wait to see the hovercraft version of "Neverlanding - The Houseboat Of Dreams" .
Still thinking about how deeply weird and LONG the rant from the homemade houseboat guy was. Possibly the longest Facebook post I have ever seen.

Dude seems to think he’s gonna continue the journey by traveling his raft-on-barrels houseboat across the ice at a high speed

“Boats like that aren’t made for the open waters of Lake Huron” - Stop right there. Oh yes it was.
They pulled the homemade houseboat Neverlanding out of the water btw, sounds like it’s out til spring. Got up to Port Austin at the tip of the Thumb and the sheriff made him stop.

Genuinely glad somebody did, the Great Lakes this time of year are no joke

I love this study because it discusses half of extraordinary belief - cultural interpretation. My own "extraordinary belief" is that sense of self, invisibility war meditations, trance dancing, and love at first sight have electromagnetic origins and ion channel function in common.

We have at least 18" of snow on the ground with another 4-8" forecasted this weekend. Spectrum internet was down for 36 hours. Power through the coop has been sketchy but on. The roads are plowed, traffic is normal, and the bar next door is open.
November 28, 2025 at 6:05 PM
The predictions for heaviest snowfall amounts on every map are centered over our house. A light snow is beginning to fall. If we don't get 18+ inches, we'll be disappointed.

I have a vague memory of the periscope on the USS Silversides when it first arrived in 1987. There was no museum or tour. I thought it was temporary.

For two years the people of Sweden sacrificed first bulls then men to end the famine that devastated the land. On the third year, they seized their King, Domalde, and sacrificed him to the gods. The next year was prosperous. #WyrdWednesday

This is so amazing, but I'm sad for the children who can't visit a real corn maze. Most of the thrill is in walking until you think you might die out there.
New uncanny valley unlocked: inflatable corn maze for urban fall fests.

It was windy earlier and we just suffered through our second or third worst power outage since moving to N Michigan, Great Lakes Energy co-op service area. It was 45 minutes.

We went thrifting in Lansing yesterday at two Volunteers of America locations, both of them on a list of the largest thrift stores in Michigan, and they did not disappoint. Amazing sales, high turnover stock, benefits go to Michigan veterans. VOA is expanding and has 9 stores, takes donations.

Surprised that I had not heard about the hundreds of windmills dotting the landscape along US127 in mid-Michigan. Unexpected and beautiful.

Devil's Night tradition in Detroit is suburban relatives burning Grandma's house down.
Made famous by the Crow, October 30 is considered Devil's Night in the North American Rust Belt, though known by other names such as Mischief Night. Full of more tricks than treats, these range from simple pranks to arson, particularly in 1980s Detroit. #Halloween #Folklore

Bags of potato chips have always been well received, but these are even better ideas.
This year for halloween we are giving out boxes of mac and cheese, granola bars and gold fish crackers. Growing up in Detroit, some of my classmates would trick or treat just so they could eat that night. It's going to be worse this year.

I know a guy who has pictures of every big local thing, long before it opens. he gets out of his white truck wearing his painter whites and tradesmen on the job think, "the painters have arrived".
this was a street art lesson for me:

no need for night time graffiti, just grab a tarp and some ladders and a clipboard or two and start painting in broad daylight
