Art II, Sec 48: "The president shall let the people know how much stuff they need and people shall not have more than what the president says they need."
Trump at his speech on the economy: "You can give up certain products. You can give up pencils…They only need one or two. They don't need that many…You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter. Two or three is nice, but you don't need 37 dolls."

Nothing excites American voters like a really wealthy guy bragging about the performance of the bond market.
Scott Bessent rallies Trump supporters in Pennsylvania: "The bond market had its best year since 202,0 and if I have anything to say about it as your nation's top bond salesman, bonds will have another strong year in 2026 as we fight to bring treasury borrowing costs down."

This is a white supremacist rally. Anyone who attends something like this or still supports the leader of this movement should be unwelcome in your home and shunned from civil society. Period. We’re way past the point where this crap should be tolerated from anyone. Cast them out.
Trump: "Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is. With her little turban. I love her. She comes in, does nothing but bitch ... we ought to get her the hell out ... she's here illegally."

The crowd in Pennsylvania then starts chanting "send her back!"

This is good. Enough with the Wilsonian crap that there's a single national will and that the president has some mystical connection to it. The Framers were wiser than that, and the Constitution they wrote makes no sense unless we accept that.

Our constitutional text and our consensus national traditions say one thing (federal law binds the federal government), but in the last 40 years, a group of elites came up with a strange, convoluted theory that amounts to basically "What if the words in the Constitution meant the opposite?"

The idea that no one else, ever - including the people who wrote the Constitution - has properly understood what the document means or stands for is a rather stunning form of judicial arrogance.
It is really, really hard to get your head around the raw hubris of the majority. They really will be destabilizing the operating structure of the entire U.S. government. Why? Because they believe they have a better idea about how the past century should've been done.

This ... and ...

members from deep red districts who announce they are stepping down may be a little (only a little) more willing to buck the party. Most of them will be reliable votes for various reasons - hey, they may want to run for something else. But when your majority is this thin ...
GOP House retirements haven't actually been very high so far, but this is retirement season, so we'll see.

And they may be "safe" seats, but never count out the possibility of Republicans nominating a candidate who runs 10-20 percentage points below generic.

This whole thread is spot on but I want to especially emphasize this point ...
the idea that a handful of conservative legal scholars have an understanding that should supersede a settlement affirmed my generations of american is astoundingly arrogant, and the idea that trump — or any president — can unilaterally overturn that settlement is just despotism

I'm pretty much expecting to see final exam responses in the near future that start with "... I'm not familiar with the facts or circumstances surrounding ... ?"
STEPHANOPOULOS: Do you support the pardon of the former Honduran president?

SCHMITT: I'm not familiar w/ the facts or circumstances

S: What do you mean you're not familiar? It's been front page news

SCHMITT: You spew Democrat talking points every single week, which is why your ratings are so bad

Great piece by Lisa Needham thoroughly dismantling the nonsense from the Trump administration around all of this ... it's just murder.
"When there’s no war, you aren’t committing war crimes when you kill people indiscriminately. You’re just a straight-up murderer."

There is no legal authority for any of these boat strikes. They are just murdering people. Some of them may have been committing crimes. We don't know which ones or how many and we likely never will. Because they were all murdered first ...

The boat was split in half. 9 men were dead. 2 more clung to a floating piece of wreckage and tried desperately to flip it over for 41 minutes straight. There was no possible way they were going anywhere.

Then they were killed in cold blood by the U.S. military.
December 5, 2025 at 1:19 AM
That's murder.
Himes: "The end result was two individuals without any weaponry, without any tools of any kind, clinging to a wrecked boat ... the decision was taken to kill them and that is in fact what happened. And that was pretty hard to watch."

Just really as simple as this ... I suppose there is some audience somewhere for citing of case law and legal theory ... but the main thing that is "indisputable" - to coin a phrase - is that the SCOTUS majority wanted to appease their partisan allies ... indisputably.

This is really important. The problem with the Roberts Court is not that they are conservative. It's that they are bad judges.
It's not just liberal judges they're doing this to. They're doing this to plenty of conservative judges too; judges who actually spent weeks and weeks poring over the details and with their arms deep in the guts of thousands of pages of documents and days of testimony.

Those judges are pissed.

This is 100% my experience with my own writing. When I know what I'm talking about (not common) the writing is clear and typically concise. When you see me going on and on and I'm just all over the place, the writing is just the tell. It is badly written because I don't know what I'm talking about.
i strongly, strongly believe that good writing is downstream of clear thinking and a strong understanding of the subject matter at hand. without fail, tortured writing comes from writers who don’t know and can’t think clearly about anything.
Oh man! This paragraph is brutal. The best thing about this review is it's not trying to be mean. It's just listing how bad the writing is.

Pete Hegseth Should Be Charged With Murder
