Finished the #cross-stitch based on @illustoryart.bsky.social 's coloring page

#ofmd #ofmdfanart #craft #handmade
Cross-stitch in an embroidery hoop of a blue and white porcelain tea cup with gold handle and detailing with the Gentleman Pirate's flag motive of a skull flanked by a dagger and a heart. From inside the teacup waves are rising up carrying a little Revenge.
A banner is wrapped around it saying "The Gentleman Pirate" at the top and "kills with kindness" at the bottom.

There's only about half an hour of the weekend left ... It's only natural to feel sunken like a punkin.

Sunken punkin. #art
A pumpkin diving helmet sits at the bottom of the sea. Close by there is strange sea life, including a squidish acorn and a leaf-tailed fish. Painted with coffee.

One last #WeekOforOpulent The early 19th cent Pillar Hall at Belsay was intended to impress, fashioned in the Greek Revival style. The doric pillars supporting the portico are copied from an Athenian temple. The architect looked to Rome for the layout, based on the ancient villa #AlphabetChallenge
"To feel the warm welcome, to mount the stairs, candlestick in hand and see the flickering shadows of the candlelight on all the pillars was glory." Priscilla Napier, a 1920s visitor to Belsay Hall, Northumberland

Greta Thunberg proved it with her determination.

She started a global movement
✊🏼🇵🇸

She turned fear into strength, anger into action.
She reminded us that you don't have to be powerful to change things - you need to have the courage to start.

Jewels

If I leave last
Unknown hands will open drawers Empty pockets, tins and jars
Of tiny sand-packed shells
Wee pebbles worn smooth in the swell, and glass of soft-ground Gulf Stream green
And I will be on the West Beach with the oystercatchers
Singing
On the edge of the Atlantic

Shells - ancient and modern - from the beach at Redcar. The modern oyster was considerably more battered than the 200 million year old ones. Watercolour painting.

🐡
Watercolour painting of shells found on the beach at Redcar, northeast England; there is a modern oyster shell on the left, showing outside and inside, though it is very sea-worn. The remainder are fossils from the lower Jurassic period (c200mya) - Cardinia bivalves, a fragment of Ammonite and Gryphaea oysters.

🧵 I love vibrant colours & the excitement they provide, as well as learning about the mythology & art of ancient Gaelic times. Such as at Glendalough [my pic]. These things have a massive impact on my own art.

You’ll see that influence in this thread of one-off ink drawings if you scroll down! [1]

Nearly 50 years later on Nov. 14, 1606, Samuel de Champlain and the inhabitants of New France held a thanksgiving feast with the Mi'kmaq. It was here the Mi'kmaq introduced the French to cranberries. The French called them petites pommes rouges (little red apples).

🧵4/10
A lively historical painting depicting a festive scene inside a wooden hall, where a group of elaborately dressed men in Renaissance-era clothing carry large trays of food, including a roasted boar, in a procession. The men wear colorful doublets, tights, and ruffled collars, with some holding staffs. The room is filled with onlookers, including individuals in tribal attire, seated at long tables with plates and mugs, while dried herbs hang from the ceiling and a musician plays in the background.
