"... the best advice I have to give is to ask: 'in what way is this argument founded in the premise that some people matter and other people don't?'"

Today I wrote about a general tendency to accept atrocious premises, and the need to reject fascism's false choices in order to find expansive and imaginative paths forward.

Breaking the premise, embracing the obstacles, pursing everything.

There Is No Trolley Problem
We actually aren't constrained into atrocious premises by thought exercises. Obstacles are a reason to fight, not an excuse to quit. Our friends and neighbors aren't distractions..

Just saw a cybertruck. I gotta say, as awful as they are on multiple levels, it's still kinda fun for just a moment to pretend I'm in the movie Freejack.

Eric Trump: "Now every single time a boat goes out of Venezuela it's getting blown up into a million pieces. That's exactly what's happening every single day. I personally have 4 friends who have lost children to fentanyl."

There could be a whole podcast where someone merely spends the whole time re-writing headlines to give people the actual news with words that actually mean things

I’ve often wondered whether this scene from Jack Kirby’s (completely wild) “Captain America's Bicentennial Battles Treasury Edition” from 1976 was an inspiration of any sort on the WW2 stage show scenes in Captain America: The First Avenger.

I know what they mean, but I would not verify anyone doing this as an adult.

Though his legacy is enormous and will stand high among the greatest talents of our time, the man himself–so generous and knowledgeable–will be missed even more by all those who were lucky enough to count him as a friend. 3/3

The first time I saw an original of his, I stood open mouthed at the skill and creativity imbued in his work, and knew I was seeing a talent that would set a new bar in illustration art.

His incredible facility in capturing likenesses in an uniquely exciting and stylistic manner was unequaled. 2/3
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Acrylic paints & colored pencils on gessoed board - 30 x 40

Montage of faces with the largest being Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in his signature hat, Kate Capshaw as Willie Scott wearing elborate jewels, a young Key Huy Quan as Short Round in ballcap. The tribal antagonists are portrayed in warm colors in the upper left while Indy guiding a pack of elephants is in cool colors in the lower right. The Thing (1982), Acrylic paints and colored pencils on gessoed board - 30 x 40. Light shines outward from a silhouetted figure in parka with hood up, creating an abstract shattered crystal, prismatic effect.

I am prepared to acknowledge that specifically praising Hitler in private might be a new thing

But as someone who was an adult back then and is part of one of the groups they want to exterminate or subjugate, yes, they have always been *just like this*

Smardon Veensblatt, crossed the vast gulfs of space just to putter around and try out various Pepsis. #SketchADoodle
Weird alien fellow. Wrinkly potato-like body with four short, gnarly arms each of which has a loose floppy hand. Long neck. Head has protruding yet bored eyes and a mildly sneering mouth.

lets say a wizard has cursed you with a lot of money. you are going to become permanently brain damaged simply by being in possession of so much money. the only way out of it is to spend a lot of money on something ridiculous and not at all useful

what would you buy to break the curse?

It’s funny how the old media depiction of Nazis was always that they’re evil but dignified gentleman and now they’re openly just like “Hello. I’m the Anime Pedophile”
