Climate change. A big threat in "Hail Santa" is the North Pole is literally melting.

And "Justice". Sometimes Virgil feels like a coward for not picking up the pitchfork and scouring the world of evil. Virgil seems to attract crusaders, one way or another.

Virgil has been alone for so long, others help *him* is hard. He's unused to being cared for. Accepting he can't fix everything and trusting others more is his arc.

The biggest obstacle for a man obsessed with control? Well, "Hell is Other People" after all.

In which Bayle panics about his wardrobe prior to a planet-side date. As a space-dweller, he hasn’t had to even think about weather in over three years.

Bayle panicked, looking at the clothes in his closet. What kinds of things did people wear to this festival? Was it casual? Formal? Somewhere in between? He hadn’t quite been able to find out from Nora, who had been somewhat indirect with her wardrobe advice. Not that it mattered much. Except for his uniforms, pajamas, and workout clothes, he only owned one other outfit; a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt. It was the jacket that gave him indigestion. It had been a lucky find, something at a second hand shop that actually fit him for once, but he didn’t know if he should wear it, and risk having to carry it around all day, or leave it and wish he had it. Planetary weather could change quickly, and he’d never quite gotten used to it. He hung it on the hook, planning to decide in the morning, before laying down to read

No. Virgil has no family left at all. He wonders if he's sad about that sometimes, but doesn't know.

Lucifer does, and Michael, the only angel to keep in contact, though secretly, is the one who warns them of the plan to fire Lucifer.

Virgil and I are very similar and it's not a coincidence we're both in the middle of a mid-life crisis.

My pet passed away recently, and I already based a character on them.

Neither of us will be gone. We'll just be a story. A good afterlife, I think.

The only thing Virgil knows and likes about himself is that he is NOT stupid.

Secretly, he thinks he always knew and just didn't care.

His vindictive inner voice just reaffirms what he's felt all his life: He deserves to go to Hell.

And he does, but not by dying, and Hell saves him.

Then Raph found out what their work had done. Virgil's world crumbled. He had been used to hurt people he thought of as friends.

And, to him, only an unfeeling monster like him would have been so callous not to look back and notice.

And worst of all: only a STUPID man would have been tricked.

Around Raphael he felt he could let the mask slip finally, a bit, be his genuine self more. This is also how he discovered he was not aromantic as he fell in love.

Unfortunately, Raphael was already married to a woman, reinforcing the pressure making him uncomfortable with his queerness.

When he felt in control, he felt safe, and in that safety he was useful, powerful, and influential.

He thought he was using that power to help people, but the object permanence issues that come with ADHD meant he moved on from the friends he thought he helped.

Except one: Raphael.

So he found refuge in that. If his body, brain or even God was conspiring against him, he'd outsmart them all.

His pride was like a lifeline in a sea of self-loathing. He would learn how to turn words to his advantage, to read people, to manufacture an empathy he didn't recognize he always had.

The alexithymia and being ace kind of compound on each other as he didn't KNOW what attraction felt like and he didn't know what he was feeling at all.

The only thing he's always know is feeling broken and angry. But the one thing people always praised him for was his intelligence.

A lot of Virgil's personality comes from being ADHD, having alexithymia & RSD, and being ace.

I think all ADHD kids eventually end up with a bit of a "I have to be useful to be loved" complex.

Virgil's almost compulsive about needing to help.

Charlie's latest prompt is so fun. It's also been interesting how many of us love our MCs for their bad traits.🤣

But there's some sort of nebulous limit, perhaps? I know I've disengaged from a lot of media because the MC was too unlikable.
