I share a lot of jobs for agricultural, environmental, development, + regional economists via listservs. I recently moved this to a Substack to decrease listserv traffic for those folks not interested in postings + to make posts more accessible to all. Use the Search tab to filter jobs. #EconSky

These ladies are holding Booker to account better than any legacy media outlet I have seen do. No hedging or mincing of words or letting him off the hook.

Awww... Well in that case having a favorite is fine
zoeconomy.bsky.social
Yesss!!! Or connect to readings/topics in another class. That's synthesis, baby!

You don't have to have a favorite of anything. You can like lots of things. Just sayin'.

It's Indigenous People's Day!

Today (and every day) is a great day to...
- Follow Indigenous people + orgs on here
- Read a book or paper by an Indigenous author
- Add an Indigenous scholar to your syllabus/curriculum
- Donate money to a tribal college or other Indigenous organization

It's not the IPA that's the problem IMHO, but rather its dominance, like when there are like 10 IPAs and one of something else for the rest of us at the taproom.

This one I knew and is also silly

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!

The University of Texas-Austin is beginning a process to eliminate the Black Studies, Latino Studies, and Gender Studies departments in the College of Liberal Arts. This is a grave threat to the educational liberty of students, faculty, staff, and the people of Texas. 1/

PS This is obviously so ridiculous and the US shouldn't have its own silly paper size
zoeconomy.bsky.social
OMG how did I not know this until today despite loving paper + mail + silly random facts?? I had no idea.

A4 paper is 210 mm × 297 mm (8.27 in × 11.7 in)
US Letter is 8.5 in x 11 in

This is fucking insane. I know we have other stuff on but I feel like this is something the UN could sort out if they put their minds to it.

If AI companies are all that's driving GDP and we're all going to be working in space in 5 years, how is it not yet possible to auto-generate alt text for images and auto-captioning of videos on all social media platforms?

That feeling when it's a cold and rainy fall day and you remember that you have hot chocolate and kahlua... I like to do your basic hot chocolate packet, boiling water, a splash of half&half, and a splash of kahlua.

Per CDC source: At internal leadership meeting this afternoon, it was shared that 1,257 people were RIF'd at CDC. Number may not be final. Apparently, chief of staff was unaware that RIFs were going to occur so not clear who is making decisions. (Short 🧵)

The thing is... We just don't know. Were they deported? Are they all still there but being kept in horrific and inhumane conditions? Have some died (either through intentional murder or unaddressed disease/neglect)? All are very bad.

The cities are getting a lot of attention (as they should!) but at the same time small actions are happening all over the place and not being aggregated up into a larger national news story by the media

Reminds me a lot of COVID deaths and how we didn't really recognize scale

I also think many more people are being taken by ICE than we realize. There was a sobering Reddit thread I saw discussed on here (now can't find it) of folks who knew people taken by ICE. It's happening everywhere + the gov't obstruction plus fractured media make it hard to see the scale of things.
