Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

right, but I mean we're talking about a spectrum between "Wizard Barristers" and "Mezzo Forte". I'm a bit worried by, " if you've seen director... Umetsu's classic works like Kite and Mezzo Forte, you know what to expect from this film." I mean Mezzo and Kite are basically Porno...

I had a polite discussion with someone about AI in a coffee shop. I tried to explain to them that it was just a plagiarism machine, he replied "but look, I can summarize a book in seconds! Isn't this amazing!?" I merely said, "I prefer to do my thinking for myself."

SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
