i have just realized my true calling on this earth it is to make a popful mail ttrpg and also i have to do it using only period-appropriate roleplaying tech available to japanese rpg designers in the early 1990s
(gonna pin this so i don't accidentally forget my true calling on this earth)
Why are you defending fascist propagandists?
It doesn't hurt that the players who end up participating in published replays are often minor celebrities who do creative work: authors, artists, voice actors, etc... So they already have a public persona/fandom thing going on, and they're used to working those angles in their day jobs.
I've never been all that big into "replay culture" so don't quote me, but I feel like the general reaction to this sort of thing from fans is to find it more endearing than anything else. People _like_ when the munchkin player munchkins out, they _like_ when the drama major soliloquies, etc...
I feel like a lot of English-language RPG discourse only acknowledges the idea that players have "personal traits" when they disrupt play or when they're a problem to work around (like in those pop-psychology player typologies). The ideal is immersion: forgetting the player to become the character.

The most important point is that replay is actually a genre that portrays "the player's personal characteristics" as part of its appeal.
If you read enough replays from the same publisher or game system, you'll start to remember some players' traits.

taro from pokemon is very cool because she has a neat design and a nice personality but also because she has an almost-boy's name and i absolutely adore it when girls have boys' names
the clear plastic pockets are so cool!

i think it's funny that as much as i'll spout pretty radical ideas about basically everything i actually tend to be a super conservative writer
i'm constantly having to tell myself, MAKE IT WEIRDER IT SOUNDS BETTER THAT WAY, i just wish i could be weird from the get-go rather than doing it in post
seems like that would be great for rents

I read Breon Mitchell's translation of The Trial by Kafka a little while back, and in the preface from the author, I think something was expressed that all of us feel about some projects:

"Translating Kafka was once my dream. Now all I dream of is how I might have done it better."

Why yes, I do dabble in intricate fantasy worldbuilding. In this realm, elves speak Elvish, dwarves speak in the Dwarven Tongue, and humans speak Normal
