Yeah the Giffen/DeMatteis run made me think of this—definitely my favorite and it worked because it was all of their main preoccupation and it felt like a proper team book, where the team was the thing, not just “Aquaman had to help his friends for a moment.”

The secret to life? Easy. Don't be afraid to be sincere. Don't take yourself too seriously. Extend grace & kindness to kids who don't know the rules/how to be in society yet. Lift up your friends & loved ones every chance you get. Remember your best won't be 100% every day. That's basically it.

I don't even think it's hard to pull off! They can sell us batches of tokens or something instead, so they're not constantly processing micro-transactions.

I don’t love the Avengers either for a lot of the same reasons but they manage it better—it’s set up as the “day job” for Iron Man and Captain America, an integral part of their lives. And Marvel is open to teams of less well known characters (my fave is that one with Spider-Woman and Power Man).

Justice League is one of those comics concepts that’s never gelled for me. I think “put all the best sellers on one team” looks good on paper but doesn’t work for storytelling—it usually feels like they’re taking a break from their main concerns. It works best if they are not-so-heavy hitters.

I overheard a little girl talking to her mom about the Headless Horseman and she said, "The doctor gave him a pumpkin for a head," which, honestly, adds an element of body horror that really amps up the intensity!
