someone liked my 2 years ago top games list and it made me remember about topsters so now theres a new one. no particular order except the order i remembered them in. i probably forgot like 3000 other ones and i remain mildly ashamed at how "boring" my overall game taste is, but it is what it be
honestly [s] cascade is genuinely still one of the most impressive segments of any kind of online media ive ever seen. like its easy to go "oh well its, homestuck, yknow" but as someone who first read hs like a year or two ago and got filled in on some context by a pal, God Damn Woah

(silksong) i can *maybe* see moorwing, bc i can see its moveset be annoying if you mess up and i was super careful because it ambushed me in act 2 out of nowhere, but groal?? groal felt like early act 1 tier of difficulty if you stay vaguely below him, esp. w/ wreath equipped
im starting to feel like i have some kind of wildly different experience with silksong from everyone else. got a pal i am corresponding with and he tells me people struggle like ass with moorwing and groal and i beat the former the first time i walked in and the latter on my second try

people that read rance love to be like oh it’s one of the greatest works of fiction ever made because they know that no one is gonna fucking read rance to check if they’re lying
i guarantee you most of those people would have found it fine or unremarkable at worst if a comparative handful of people didnt keep dictating everyone elses opinion out of peer pressure. free yourself from what your favorite youtuber thinks about a cool visual style, think for yourself
like... for what. have you played any of them or did you look at octopath once and decide they all look like that. is '2d sprite in 3d environment' that toxic to you. the way hating hd-2d has become the "trendy opinion" is one of the most insane gamerbrained parts of online ""discourse"" jfc
reminded once again of (popular video essay channel) i cant watch because they did extremely cool shit but also literally went out of their way to piss on the hd-2d visual style at even the most distant stray mention and its so deeply obnoxious that it soured me on them as people

BLANKSWORD IS FUNDED!

Thanks to your generosity, we've accrued over 74k€ to make our game a reality!

From the bottom of our hearts, and on behalf of the entire team, I have only one thing to say!
up to and including having various villains that keep being teased as the most terrifying unstoppable force ever seen for most of the plot which then show up like twice and proceed to be defeated or stopped with underwhelming means or with some sort of extremely sudden asspull (/affectionate)
surreal fantasy series spanning many dimensions including a central metaphysical hub that is intrinsic to the continued functioning of the universe, which also sort of fall apart near the end but in a specific way that i honestly oddly enjoyed the disjointed atmosphere of

dark tower 🤝 homestuck
thats all to say i really liked anthology of the killer but it felt so anchored in specific subculture avant garde shit that i literally had anxiety attacks during it bc i felt like it wasnt 'for me' & im 'not getting it enough' & i should stop and be ashamed of myself for intruding. which is stupid
even games. i loved kentucky route zero a lot but i didnt 'get it', at least not fully, so you can torture the fact that its one of my favorites out of me unless im as tired and loopy as i am rn bc being asked about why and going 'idk' would make me instantly the biggest poser in the world
'how do people get into said subcultures then if its like that' i couldnt tell you they seem impenetrable to me. niche music (any music, really), avant garde type art shit, i feel like i have to 'get it fully' before i can ever talk to anyone else about it, or in some cases, experience it at all
i gotta stop the gremlin in my brain that insists everything too niche is too cool 4 me & i am not qualified. a zine is just a collection of things but bc i am not into 'zine culture' i am not allowed to read one. any kind of niche subculture thing? well i dont belong and people will make fun of me

I'm aware that the FFVII Remake games are fairly contentious for a number of choices they made, but the fact that they made bold decisions that generate some kind of reaction as opposed to just redoing an old game that's still good now makes them far more worthwhile than 9 out of 10 other remakes.
you can only check in on your party of four clickpocalypse 2 druids and their horde of dogs clear out a dungeon so many times before you realize youve seen this 100 times now & its losing its novelty and you need something new. but i did enjoy checking in on my partys progress after work for a while
need one of those mobile incremental games i can check in on every few hours for 2min. a process needs to run in the background or i feel unfulfilled. literally accidentally left my phone stopwatch running the other night &realized it gave me a feeling of Satisfaction & i knew it was too late for me

(silksong) ok but bilewater is extremely funny though. the first 90% of the area are kind of eh, easy enough if you dont fall into the water, but you also get increasingly nervous. then they hit you with the fakeout & 5 mins later with a gauntlet+boss, retroactively making all of it horrifying

while the topic of "more gamers should read vn's" comes up often, i'm more on the side of ; vn fans should read books
literally only just now seen the legends za combat in action bc i wasnt paying attention to the trailers or anything much ("combat focused game? boring, not for me") and thought it actually looks p. interesting. the pain of no convenient video sharing from the switch is once again sorely felt
