There’s also the Ormandy from the mid-60s that I own on a surprisingly great sounding #cassette. It might sit between the Davis and 1954 Munch. Last is the Barenboim. Beautiful recording by Tony Faulkner, but a slog of a performance.

Because it’s the spooky season, I played every physical copy of Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique” I own. There are two versions by Munch and the BSO, one from 1954 and the next from 1962. They’re both amazing, but the ‘62 is my fave. The brilliant Davis on Philips is next. #VinylCommunity #classical

I remember buying one of those super hits compilations on a cassette just a couple years after this song vanished from the charts specifically for this song. It included a bunch of less worthy one-hitters, but this one was the banger. This part of the tape became unplayable after I was done.
