Hello world! I’m a huge Mayor Wu stan who thinks she’s one of the great progressive leaders in America right now.
I think there’s something to be said for having Senators from all experience — from state/local executive, to Congress, to none at all.

Trump turned the GOP from a party out of touch with Americans to an effective messaging machine by coming from outside & shaking the table.
I don’t think it’s a virtue or a vice. It has its flaws, such as not having a paper trail to back up your bonafides, and maybe being an ineffective legislator; but also has its benefits, such as having a clearer reason for why you’re running and closer connections to your constituents.
That’s fair, though I don’t think experience is a silver bullet either. Fetterman had 2 decades of experience in governance and still turned out to be a phony. And I think coming into a high profile position without being poisoned by consultant speak or Washington brain isn’t inherently bad either.
He endorsed him in June. I think Zohran came up more independently of Bernie than Platner did (Bernie jumped in earlier on that one) but Bernie was still one of the earliest national figures to endorse him and the timing of the endorsement doesn’t really affect my view of it.
I think that’s fair, I just don’t know if I agree that is a trap unique to populism. I think populism has a couple higher profile disasters but look at someone like Newsom who’s sneaking moderation on social issues into being a winning issue through memes. And he could be the next POTUS.
I agree with you on this, I’m not sure what isn’t clear. You’re using an example of an old white guy with a huge ego being stubborn in his convictions to make a broader point about populist politicians in America, and I’m agreeing with you that it’s bad but not agreeing with your broader conclusion.
And another of his protege is about to be the most progressive mayor of New York this century who has single-handedly reinvigorated American progressives.
I agree with you on this, but AOC is a populist, so it kind of invalidates the point you’re trying to make? Bernie has a bigger ego and is more stubborn than her but it doesn’t seem to in any way have to do with his political philosophy.
I agree that Biden and Bernie being white guys in their 80s is a contributor. I don’t agree that Bernie being populist exacerbates this problem — it’s mostly a wash. Biden surrounded himself with yes men and loyalists who clung to power until it became clear he was looking at a 350-400 EV landslide
My point in bringing up Biden is that every politician makes poor staffing or advisory decisions, and it’s not unique to populist ones.

My point in bringing up AOC/Zohran is that these are people Bernie endorsed, presumably without checking for tattoos, who we now like.
Again, being a bad judge of character and overly stubborn/egotistical is a hallmark of like 90% of American politicians. Should Biden not be trusted because he listened to Matt Yglesias & elevated Karine Jean Pierre? Should we not trust people like AOC or Zohran because they enjoy Bernie’s support?
Yglesias doesn’t want people to be less argumentative about pronouns, he wants Democrats to adopt a more anti-trans platform to satiate anti-trans Americans. And he’s strawmanned Dem voters as actively and intentionally rejecting the votes of anti-trans people.
Ok, but the point I’m making is that Democrats can’t really do much about people being offended over someone using the wrong pronouns. Anyone who is refusing to vote for Dems because they want to be able to use the wrong pronouns isn’t someone the Dems should cater their platform to.
Bernie has stood up for a hell of a lot more good causes than the vast majority of American politicians. I don’t agree with how he’s approaching the Platner issue but to say he can’t be trusted because he made a bad endorsement (all pols do that!) is pretty silly imo.
What is he even talking about with a “secret AIPAC plan”? I’ve been pretty clocked out of that race.
Watching this again at lunch because I love Boston and Mayor Michelle Wu.
"There's no shortage of reasons these days to be angry or afraid. But look around you right now and you'll see tens of thousands of reasons to keep the faith and keep going. This is the America we know to be possible."

Realized this was on bluesky and my jaw dropped. These people need to get a life and govern the fucking country like adults.
Forest is an app that gamifies this — you build little trees the longer you keep the app open, and if you switch to a different app the tree dies. So it’s not technically a lock on bluesky but it keeps you out of the app (and any other app).
There’s an accessibility setting on iPhones where you can turn your screen grayscale, which is proven to make your eyes less drawn to it. It’s worked for me in the past.
He should just skip the press conference and put out a daily statement that just says “I don’t know the details.” Save Aaron the time.
Getting close to muting “I haven’t heard the details” I can’t read any more posts about Johnson saying this
Huge for your friend who consistently ends up delayed in O’Hare for hours
Wow, good thing we got rid of USAID - if we hadn’t we might not be able to afford such an important bailout!
Is there a coherent America first defense to the Argentina bailout or is it just Rubio and the other hawks wanting more right wing governments in South and Central America?
