Just a guy who did an antifascist drawing once, and used to tweet about Holiday Road. Also just a guy not actually named Nolan. I have an itchy block finger and am often in a foul mood, but I swear I’m often nice! Co-host of @MMISpodcast.bsky.social He/Him

This is literally the most sincere statement I have ever made online and ever will. I believe it to my bones and the day I stop believing it is the day I am no longer me, and I hope it’s the day I die.

We have been taught for so long (my generation especially) that the biggest sin in life is to let someone get one up on you. So what? Life isn’t a contest; the people selling you that already consider you the pawns in their game. Empathy being destroyed is the death of anything good in human culture

Imagine being angry at the person whom you freely chose to follow for not giving you the exact free content you demand.

I can’t remember which of my mutuals once described the New York punk and new wave and no wave and etc scene as “spanning a range between experimental, aggressive, and sounding a lot like the SNL band.”
wolter.bsky.social
Yeah. It’s an amazing rich and varied scene, and even some of the tiny fringe bands that never really went anywhere but played CBGB or Max’s a few times are fascinating. Like the weirdly childlike but surprisingly smutty glam-tinged power pop of Milk ‘n’ Cookies!

I think sharing too many cat photos is not a leading cause of unfollows on here.

I know I slip a lot on that front, though I try a lot harder these days. I mostly try to use it to make dumb jokes or to expand on someone else’s jokes to my followers now.

Like, the ramones were hugely inspired by bubblegum pop, but they had a rough, cartoonish macho energy despite being every bit as hungry for fame as Blondie. And I LOVE the Ramones! Love them. But if they were girls in 1976? No way they become legendary.
wolter.bsky.social
I honestly think it’s because they came at it from an almost 60s girl group sound instead of either loud aggressive minimalist rock music or left field jazz or funk experimentation. Was it sexism? Probably a little bit!

I think I realized it when I changed cars and I no longer had a working adapter to play songs from my phone for about a year, so I made mix and compilation CDs for my commute. I made one of my personal favorite Blondie songs and I ended up having to cull more ruthlessly than I expected to fit.

Dude in grocery store goes “Some common sense advice: masks don’t do anything. Idiot.” I said “Forgive me for not taking ‘common sense advice’ from a guy wearing socks with Crocs in the rain.” I could tell by his face he’s gonna go to sleep tonight thinking about everyone on line laughing.

Come on now... This is how you wanna fucking headline this????
wolter.bsky.social
I mean hell yeah it is. It took me a while to cross from “there are a lot of good Blondie songs” to “holy shit they have quite a few all timers, what a band!”
wolter.bsky.social
Pretty much. I’m being circuitous because I’m not intentionally subtweeting everyone sharing something right now. Just the ones sharing it as “experts” but giving advice everyone already knows because it stokes their egos as king shit accounts on here, as if anyone cares.

We probably all do those obvious “don’t do it” posts sometime, but I think most of us hate to admit we’re doing it for the dopamine hit of an obvious take being shared positively, not because we think we can convince someone on the fence.
wolter.bsky.social
I think at a certain point dunking on a naive tactic spreads it faster than realizing anyone who thinks it’s a good idea is a tiny minority on another wavelength than you and anyone who doesn’t doesn’t really need to told why it’s a bad idea.

Biden ran on being able to reach across the aisle and reason with his decades-long friends in the senate and as soon as he got there all the other old men were like we’ll fuckin’ kill you old man

There's no "regular politics" anymore because you can no longer maintain the idea that we all agree on common goals but we only differ about the means of getting there or whatever. The guys in charge now are plainly amoral, sadistic nihilists. They delight in it! You can't civilly disagree with that

He’s just a huge Magilla Gorilla fan

Atomic really probably is my second favorite Blondie song.
wolter.bsky.social
Sounds like the name one of my friends would come up with for his punk band when we were like 16.

I say grand jury because cops ain’t gonna do shit to them, but regular people really don’t seem to like ICE and don’t seem to mind at all when people throw shit at them, for example.

Except I own a car, there is an internet, and I’m not so much bored as distracted from what I should be doing in the kitchen so I can go to bed early like the old sack of crap I am.
