Two quick random fixes after hours tonight, dopresskit.com properly serves files again and the @thehabibis.show handle got revalidated. I also got the little music box tinkering project mostly working & my soldering is back up to par.

I think I've earned 30 minutes of Destiny.

Was in a lyft car and the driver had the stereo on playing N'Sync's "Tearing Up My Heart". I don't know if he was playing spotify or satellite radio or what, but there was definitely some shit AI involved bc the LCD readout on the stereo read, "N'SYNC - Team Berries Malort". I swear to god. No joke.

p.s. "bad bitch" has pretty much always been a compliment, despite using the word "bitch" which yes, obviously is sexist. and no the babytalk version of "bad bitch" as "baddie" has nothing in common with the British-ism of "baddie" as slang for villain, like comic book shit, the joker, magneto, etc.

i regret to inform you that "baddie" in place of "bad bitch" is not feminist anything. it is the same thing as saying, "PDF file" instead of "pedophile" or "slip and slide" instead of "suicide" or "unlive" instead of "dead". it's self-censoring to avoid getting shadowbanned on youtube, tiktok, etc.

yeah i can see that! i really, really tried to read the parts of kerberos panzer cops that didn't get translated in the dark horse hellounds comic, and my skills were just nowhere near good enough. i really should have tried to read something for little kids.

my japanese is not good enough to just sit down and read a manga. i've suffered through a couple of short one shots, dictionary in hand, but i bet it's hard to read fist of the north star in japanese if you're not completely fluent, partly because of the increasingly esoteric martial arts shit.

I finished reading the final volume of Fist of the North Star last night!

I was pretty terrified they were setting it up so that Kenshiro and Rin were going to be a romantic couple at the end. 🤮 Fortunately that did not happen, but they had me worried!

the manga is just so beautiful for the vast majority of its run, you know? and the animated movie is also really lovely looking.

ah yeah, i never watched that. like i said in the thread, i watched a little of the original tv series but bounced off of it. i really love the manga, though. the tv show has a cool theme song but the animation is kinda rocky and the sanitized violence takes away a lot of the bite of the manga.

true. there's lots of murderous dramatic irony. that's still happening in the last volume, like with the bully who is going to execute the musician for writing incredible music and he's like, "sing right now or i kill you" and is going to kill him anyway and then kenshiro forces the bully to sing.

i mean, i get that, but i think the problem with the second half of the island storyline is that the art starts to get worse not that the story does. at least for me. ymmv.
