It looks like blue sky is dying because of management decisions... unless we can put on the best talent show that this town has ever seen

David pakman is still around? I thought he pivoted to hawking supplements or am I thinking someone else

(in a crackly voice) you can actually ferment the blood of the Eurasian yak but only if it has diabetes... I have several on my property in Delaware. It makes the most rich brewed wine and it's what our Aryan ancestors drank before they were treated into the hyperborean hollow Earth

The word comptroller looks only like someone misspelled the word controller and was never big enough to admit the mistake

I think instead we should go back to putting radium in everything

There is also a phenomenon of lack of literary comprehension that I have seen online for 20 some years now where someone will say that The Onion posted something that's untrue and conclude that it is a newspaper that prints lies.

There are adults that go through the world like this

Satire is a literary genre that relies on things like irony, exaggeration, parody to communicate a point.

Satire is not and has never meant something that is untrue. To the contrary: truth is a fundamental component to Comedy and especially important to satire.

The number of people in the Onion's comment sections when the Onion says something that's true on some level that respond:

"I thought the onion was supposed to be satire!"

Still fucking is! Satire does not mean saying things that are untrue. The foundation of Comedy is truth

Expository infodumps are bad writing no matter who does it. Especially if they are in the first few pages of the book.

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

Some books would be made better by removing the boat. Moby Dick, Billy bud, The Odyssey. All would be far more impressive if they were swimming the entire time

I cannot trust financial news because nobody has the fucking guts to say that cryptocurrency is 100% hot air as a concept. It is a bubble with absolutely zero basis in any fundamentals.

Nobody is under any obligation to consider any cryptocurrency as having any inherent value

You can stop pointing out double standards to conservatives they don't give a fuck. If you want to defeat them you need to build real power not just act snarky

I told Alexa to play some Barry White to set the mood and it started playing a YouTube video of Bari Weiss at a panel discussion at the Federalist society

Because the real life AI "relationships" that people are having are these deeply psychologically troubling ordeals where people are being alienated from their humanity and the movie Her is more about human connection being affirmed as the cornerstone of life
whisperingpines.bsky.social
I just realized that every single '80s movie villain (you know the one that wants to build a hotel on the old youth center property?) is based on Donald Trump
whisperingpines.bsky.social
I did not get this sentiment from the movie Her whatsoever. I feel like the story is that the protagonist is changed as a person once she leaves and that he goes back out into the human relationship world, having been altered by that experience.

I always got Trump vibes from the villain of uhf. Maybe that has something to do with it?

In the US Constitution where it says that only landowners are eligible to vote this does not, broadly speaking, refer to someone who owns their house and the land that it's on. It's a reference to the newly emerged class of industrialists and landlords and sharecropping lords

There was a story that broke on social media about the US giving donated cadavers to israel. This is a completely normal thing that happens no matter what you think of Israel.

On social media however this was just a modern version of blood libel of the idea of Americans being experimented on

I'd be willing to compromise on just imprisoning every ICE agent for life
arbiteriapetus.bsky.social
Chop apparently died when an apparent ICE agent opened the door to the bathroom where he was securely contained, and murdered him.

Somehow this seems like an important point. His family was trying to keep Chop and ICE officers safely separated.
