If he hadn’t told the truth, someone else would have.

Even now, Dem leaders fail every opportunity to prove they aren’t in the pocket of corporate/urban interests. This has driven blue collar voters to Trump, despite the fact that he continually works against their interests.

They need new leaders

Not sure I believe this is Bernie’s fault, but yeah.

… which is also largely - but not entirely - a problem one experiences with low density.
w1ts3nd555.bsky.social
The one thing it’s missing is comments about the low density meaning that too little property tax is spread over too much area, leading to budget constraints and inadequate pedestrian infrastructure.

That and the simple fact that, if too few people will use it, we’re naturally reluctant to fund it.

Their assertions about onshore wind are flatly false and willfully stupid.

It only makes sense from the perspective of someone who wants to keep everyone hooked on fossil fuels no matter the costs.

I continue to be very alarmed by the swift capture of large news media organizations by those clearly committed to misleading the public.

Was not on my bingo card. Kinda terrified by how misled people already are, and now it appears we are all going off the cliff - oh, and J6 was apparently fake….

I knew it would be bad, but... so bad! So quickly!

Promoting the editor-in-chief's personal side project. Zero named sources in a story that promotes the editor-in-chief's personal political position. Misspelling the subject's name. It took one day for CBS News to become a conservative blog.

Casting up false doubt around knowable, urgent questions (J6, FFS…) is a loathsome practice that the right now seems fully committed to.

The public is being tested on its willingness to accept constant lies as “alternate truths.”

The solar factoids alone are only one narrow facet of the interesting questions considered in the article.

Worth reading.
volts.wtf
"I’m currently putting 15kW [of PV solar] on my 'shed' in Australia, at the same time I’m putting 13kW on the roof of my office building in San Francisco. My actual quotes for both projects, converted to USD/Watt is $0.53 in Australia, and $3.88 in San Francisco."

Pure insanity.

The astonishing commitments of energy to AI, put in perspective. A better idea to power it all, and a contemplation of why we think AI is more important than environmentalism.

Succinct and understandable.

I’m working on several of these!

Ok, since many people are obviously not reading the article, here's a pertinent figure from it showing the top actions to reduce emissions.
A horizontal bar chart titled “19 climate-friendly choices, ranked” shows actions individuals can take to reduce their carbon footprint, ordered from most to least impactful. The x-axis represents projected impact in tons of CO₂ equivalent per capita per year (tCO₂e/cap/yr), ranging from 0 to about 2.5. Each action is color-coded by sector: transportation (blue), energy (orange), and food (green).

Go car-free – highest impact (blue bar extending to about 2.5 tCO₂e).

Fly less (blue, about 1.5).

Shift to renewable home energy (orange, about 1.4).

Switch to EV or hybrid car (blue, about 1.2).

Go vegan (green, about 1.0).

Walk, bike, or take transit more (blue).

Make energy-efficient renovations (orange).

Use clean cooking equipment (orange).

Go vegetarian (green).

Shift driving habits (e.g., carpooling) (blue).

Increase telecommuting (blue).

Shift to regional/seasonal diet (green).

Move to energy-efficient home (orange).

Decrease food waste (green).

Eat less meat (green).

Use less energy at home (orange).

Reduce packaged food, dining out (green).

Use energy-efficient appliances (orange).

Compost – least impact (green, under 0.1).

A note clarifies that these are meta-analytic estimates of greenhouse gas reduction potentials, drawn from 659 estimates across 47 academic journal articles. The average person emits 6.28 tonnes of CO₂e per year, though this varies widely by income and country. Wealthier populations may emit up to 110 tonnes per year, while lower-income populations may emit as little as 1.6 tonnes.

Kelly: I really worry about those aviators, drone operators, special forces guys that are in the Caribbean right now striking these boats and whether or not this is legal..

There’s no authorization for the use of military force. The Congress has not given that to the president. He hasn’t asked.

Another national study I read concluded that ASHP alone will not cost less to run in climates colder than Detroit, due to resistance backup heat in extreme lows.

This will make it hard to convince those in the north Midwest to convert.

Given that, hybrid propane seems sensible. Can ditch piped gas
w1ts3nd555.bsky.social
Working thru the paper:

Another means of avoiding cost shock of backup resistance heat in northern climes is to instead install hybrid heat pumps and convert existing furnaces to propane, which has very low GWP. Coupled w/ envelope improvements, backup heat may only be needed for a couple weeks.

I’d be interested in a study of impact reduction in a scenario where e-bikes replace some fraction of EV trips.

Energy required per mile is sooo much less, and they’re functionally like a scooter or motorcycle - perfectly suitable for most solo trips - especially those within 5-10 miles.

“According to the latest data, global GHG emissions in 2024 experienced an increase of 1.3% compared to the levels in 2023.”

To keep under 2°C emissions should have fallen by 5.5% in 2024 and EVERY year thereafter until 2030.

“Putting solar panels on just 3% of the land that is now used for biofuel would produce the same amount of energy, enough to power 1/3 of the world’s cars if they were EVs.”
