Who is Russell Vought cutting at our health agencies? The data people. The scientists. The comms people.

Project 2025 is a war on truth.
We are fighting an information war.

Sources of reliable truth are who they are after.

More CDC Cuts :: NCHS Edition 📊🔫

At least 1/3 of the staff at the National Center for Health Statistics has been cut (and remain cut). This is catastrophic for our nation’s health data.

Say goodbye to national health statistics that you can trust, healthcare surveys, NHANES and data systems.

Yup! But triage has other benefits. So let’s try in the ways we can to mitigate that tendency.

If it’s a fundamental disagreement about significance, that will come out in discussion. I think if we allow the process to systematically de-weight a group of proposals (those w/high score variance) that hold a relatively high proportion of potentially groundbreaking proposals, the field suffers.

The 5-point discrepancy means likely someone wholly misunderstood the application. And it’s likely to be either 1) fatally flawed in an easy-to-miss way or 2) a substantial innovation that goes against paradigm. The field is hurt if we don’t identify which.
visscherlab.bsky.social
I’ll bite: the 5 point discrepancy is more important. In the 2-3 point discrepancy near the funding line, both applications are probably very good and the field improves by funding either one. On the other hand…

If you're talking to ppl who aren't sure why we should care about the MMWR staff being fired, here's an MMWR article from 9/25/2025. These are people whose work we don't (& shouldn't have to) think about. But they gather data & inform the people who we trust to keep us safe. #EpiSky

NIH cuts save $9-10B short-term, but they’re killing 202K jobs & $46B in red-state economies (TX, FL, OH). $8T healthcare disaster loom, no cancer/Alzheimer’s cures, pricier drugs. Scientists fleeing to China? Bad deal. Fight for NIH!

If I were a hostile power attempting to weaken the largest superpower in the world, actions like this would be effective.

You have to ask yourself, why do this?

What is the goal?

My spouse pulled data from the CDC’s MMWR team on a weekly basis for her company to include with public health reports. That entire team has just been RIFed by Trump.

No more public health reports.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

Sure to NOT produce any media hand wringing. Nope, constant attacks on the folks on the left ARE NOT the result of a President calling us scum and terrorists, or any other violent rhetoric from the right. All is nominal.
