you can see the groundwork for later battles with insurmountable odds, especially against the borg in tng’s best of both worlds. and scotty is in full miracle worker mode, saving the day repeatedly with paper clips and chewing gum

most of the drama comes from a guest character who is doing a captain ahab (yeah trek loves that one). he clashes with spock over command, which is pretty interesting, and meanwhile kirk and scotty do most of the hero work of rigging a makeshift bomb to take out the titular doomsday machine.

spiderman mtg really speaks to how over saturated we are with crossover content. the set is designed perfectly to be what it is. but it’s just not interesting to look at spiderman merchandise. he’s on underpants and toothbrushes. magic cards? sure, why not. it’s hard to be passionate about it
