Heads-up. I like Scott's posts, and he offers unpaid subscriptions on Substack, so I signed up. I recieve 2 email soliciations EVERY day. Some good info in them but I don't have time for all of it. So mostly just tiresome deletes. And no Unsubscribe. Scott's informative, but keep that in mind.
There is no Unsubscrube on the email, none on links he provides, none on his page. So, for all intents and purposes, it does not exist. If it does, there's a reason its hidden, and Scott must know by now. Very unfortunate.
Just a heads up. After reading some good posts here on Bluesky, I subscribed to Scott Dworkin on Substack. Well, I receive a constant stream of emails. Constant. Daily. It seems sometimes multiple times a day. It may be the most regular deleted source of email I have now. And no Unsubscribe. Beware.
Everyone should be protesting the Trump-instigated crisis in L.A. every day. People continuing to go about their daily lives and capitulate to dictatorship is as outrageous as the dictator's actions themselves. This is why we are here. Failure to take responsibility and act. Decades of just this.
Alt. to Amazon that doesn't seem evil. "Wayfair Inc. is an American e-commerce company based in Boston, MA that sells furniture and home goods online. Formerly known as CSN Stores, it was founded in 2002, and currently offers 14 million items from more than 11,000 global suppliers". Public Co.
Alcatraz prison closed primarily due to high operating costs and deteriorating infrastructure. The isolation of the island, combined with the need to transport supplies (and water) by boat...making it nearly three times more expensive to operate than other federal prisons...

Reopening? Misdirection

Trumpty-Dumpty is defunding PBS. What he calls "bias" some of us call "facts Trumpty-Dumpty doesn't like."

The Human Genome Project cost taxpayers $3 Billion.

Two decades on, it has generated a staggering return on investment of $1 Trillion, with benefits in medicine, agriculture, energy, the environment, & more.

If you want to boost the economy, funding science is one of the best things you could do.
Boycotting. It works.
To all those who said boycotting Target was a waste of time. It wasn't. Keep it up, y'all!

I spoke with NPR about the threatening letters that the Republican administration is sending to medical journals.
"It's an indication of the degree to which this administration will go to try to interfere with scientific research and the scientific community," says Carl Bergstrom, a professor of biology at the University of Washington. "They'll do just about anything and tamper with science in any way that they think will be helpful."

278 men, including Mr. Abrego Garcia, remain imprisoned under brutal conditions in El Salvador, without due process, for an indefinite period.

Don’t let this slip out of view.

This is the way we need to respond.

THEY respond by sending $600K to a woman who calls a black 5-year autistic a: "N___"

We need to respond when bad things happen. Please respond.

Thinking about devastating cuts to NSF: US gov-funded science has been the engine upon which most of the tech wealth was generated. But the oligarchs (currently hoarding much of that $) think it’s their own brilliance & not the accident of standing close to the scientific engine that made them rich.

"Trump lost against the Maine governor. He lost against Perkins Coie. He loses 80% of cases in court. Which makes those who’ve capitulated look that much more foolish, because if they’d just fought back, they would've retained what they thought they'd lose and their dignity would still be intact."
Trump forced to concede defeat
Maine's governor promised she'd see Trump in court. She just declared victory.

Few lawyers are willing to speak publicly about President Trump’s actions against law firms. Fear is rippling through Washington. But, despite being a target, Marc Elias is still talking. Scott Pelley sits down with him tonight on 60 Minutes.

In an #ARVO2025 NAEVR www.eyeresearch.org vision research funding session talking about the absolute devastation to vision science funding that is happening under the Trump administration.
A large conference room filled with vision scientists.
First, they need to believe there will be a post-Trump era.
Every word of this is true. If I'm wrong, please correct me with how you gained info. I'm all about learning.

And thank goodness for our district courts thus far. They are the only thing holding whatever we still have together, for what that's worth.
