Marble from the island of Naxos was used for some of the most beautiful monuments from the ancient Greek world–but how were huge blocks like these quarried 2,500 years ago?

Check out our new paper in @antiquity.ac.uk at bit.ly/4h9AVik to learn how we're developing new ways to study old quarries 🏺🇬🇷

Getting modern buildings and significant features listed is harder than it should be because regulators fear being accused of hampering future development, being forced to issue certificates of immunity from listing, or even taken to court, by companies and bodies with deep pockets?

🚨 A unique test panel from the Tottenham Court Road Station murals by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi (1924-2005) is coming up at auction with Lyon & Turnbull on Oct 31.

Created in 1982-86, the polychromatic glass mosaics at TCR are the ‘Sistene Chapel of art of the Underground’, yet remain unlisted.

The first political party I have ever signed up to.
I've always been a supporter/voter of the Green Party at local and national levels but have always been told that my vote is a "wasted vote". I don't think that'll be the case anymore!

Finding #DH resources in Iceland just got easier
We’ve launched a new resource list! 👇

One of the biggest challenges isn’t the lack of resources – it’s finding them.

Our growing list offers an overview of resources from MSHL, its member institutions, and others in the arts and humanities.

This is a truly remarkable programme from the BBC archives.

A 1971 interview/interrogation of Albert Speer the leading Nazi who apologised and as a result survived - by Michael Charlton, Hugh Trevor-Roper and George Ball whom he had last met at the Nuremberg trials.

What policy themed visitor trail would you do upon retirement? I would pilgrimage to visit the 100 Rishi Sunak outdoor chess sets around the country. I genuinely think it would be one of those fun random things that would take me to places I’d never otherwise go to

🏺argh I'm thinking about a fairly recent academic article showing that archaeologically there was no major reorganization of Italian farms in the Late Republic that would have made slave labor much more efficient than free labor: can anyone point me to the citation?

This mosaic from Ostia Antica shows Neptune's triumph. It lies in the frigidarium of a very large bath house (c. 67 x 67 metres), known as the Baths of Neptune. It was excavated by Lanciani in 1888 and Vaglieri in 1909 and 1910. It dates to the 1st-2nd centuries AD. #MosaicMonday

We don't just have university departments represented at University Archaeology Day #UAD25! The CBA @archaeologyuk.bsky.social will also be there and contributing to our panel session talking about the huge range of careers you can pursue with an archaeology degree!
Image shows a stylised set of historic buildings above an archaeological landscape filled with buried ancient objects. The text reads "The Council for British Archaeology (CBA) is a leading educational charity dedicated to championing and promoting engagement in archaeology and supporting grassroots archaeologists across the UK". The post promotes University Archaeology Day on Monday 27th October 2025 at the British Academy in London, and the QR code links to a website where free tickets for the in-person event or for the virtual livestream of panel sessions can be booked.

Lanyon Quoit in Penwith, Cornwall, is the remains of a prehistoric chamber tomb with a mound some 30m long. The monument consists of a huge capstone, 5.3m long, supported on four upright stones, standing about 3m high. It collapsed in 1815 and was re-erected. #StandingStoneSunday
