I wanted to like it much more than I did. The deepfake de-aging was distracting, esp. for a film clocking in at 3.5 hours. One of the few Scorsese films I haven’t watched more than once.

As a young film student, I was inspired by the Diane Keaton-directed documentary “Heaven.” It’s experimental, beautiful and very fun. It made me want to become an editor — which I did!

About 30 years ago I was given a tour of WIPB, the Muncie, IN PBS affiliate at Ball State University. Ross filmed his show in their original studio, which was an old house formerly owned by the Ball family. The main stairwell was decorated with a dozen or so Ross paintings. They let me touch one!

I say this as someone who writes about Hollywood and entertainment for a living: People have got to stop thinking Hollywood is one monolithic mass. The creatives are a wholly different group than studio executives. The former group keeps making art despite the latter.
