"Hudson told Stuff his client wanted to be clear that he was not part of any protest activity outside Peters’ house." And he's being charged with burglary. So, er, not a deranged left-wing protester after all? www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3608...

Did you see this in Sunday's Herald? Tossing up about filing a complaint.

Luxon abolished the Govt fund to help industry decarbonise, as he said he didn’t want to subsidise them and carbon price signals were the answer. Then he gave $200m for more fossil fuel exploration and abolished price signals for agribusiness, the biggest polluter.

Here's the full maths - in short the cruelty is the point. Shameful.

"as of November 2026, when this new regime takes effect, a household earning $65,528 with an 18-year-old beneficiary will lose $13,942 – the annual Jobseeker income after tax – if the household’s income increases by $1 a year.

This is great. Also, let’s do away with private election companies. They continue to do a garbage job and excluding Māori candidates from the booklet this year was unforgivable.

Winners, losers, big losers and gigantic losers from the 2025 local elections
Winner: the endless cycle of underinvestment in core infrastructure. Big loser: the pipes.

Re-upping this. I am VERY interested to find out if this Danish Carbon Tax was ever discussed in the Regulatory Impact Statement (assuming one is prepared)

In related news I am presently transcribing a podcast episode covering the OECD's report "Tax Policy Reforms 2025". And guess what Denmark did? Introduce a carbon tax on agriculture aimed at reducing CO2 emissions from agriculture & forestry by 30% by 2030.

A "Gotcha" media culture which presumes a level of knowledge even tax specialists struggle with?

Mind blowing.

The Luxon Government has confirmed it will rewrite NZ’s once bipartisan climate change law to dilute methane reduction targets and PERMANENTLY exclude dairy from the Emissions Trading Scheme – a move Greenpeace says amounts to full-blown climate denial.

There was some news about farmers I hear. Is this it?
trabaq.bsky.social
Do you think it's occurred to the Govt & Federated Farmers that farmers in other countries have lobby groups too, and this decision gives them an opportunity to lock us out of those markets? Maybe the regulatory impact statement will comment on this? 🙄

Also, would MFAT have had some input?

It still saddens me to my core that so many of us are OK with asking the majority if the minority should have a voice. Talk about stacking the deck. #nzpol

MĀORI WARDS
40% of areas chose to keep Māori wards. Some by a wide margin.

A better result than I expected, given the demographics and embedded racism in our country.

In areas that lost, I'd love to know whether the numbers have improved since any previous referendum.

Aotearoa on the move.

Guns not butter eh? Where have I heard that line before?

Really would like a journalist to ask Collins or Luxon that because since they've cut funding for school lunches and food banks it's EXACTLY the choice which is being made.

Pitch: A movie star whose moves always bomb, just pure box office poison, who studios use as a sort of franchise hitman to tank any tentpole movie for tax purposes. ENTOURAGE meets THE PRODUCERS. And make sure you rack up the budget on this thing because I've got the perfect guy to play the lead

Why do we pay CEOs so much should be one of the great philosophical discussions of our age. I see TVNZ's CEO got a $100k plus bonus for increased profits which involved axing "Sunday" and "Fair Go". Completely contrary to TVNZ's purpose but here we. SMDH...
