To celebrate, I will share something from my collection for every like this post gets.

I’ll start things off with a special fanzine (by request) - I Palantir #1 (August 1960). The very first Tolkien specific fanzine!
Cover of I Palantir #1, showing a wizard (Saruman?) clutching to his chest a spherical Palantir that is roughly the size of his head. Vague lines in the background give the sense of a chamber or tunnel. The title of the fanzine is written in Tengwar.

I've identified the manuscript #Tolkien used for his landmark 1939 lecture On Fairy-stories – previously thought lost. See my featured article, available online, in the latest issue of the Journal of Inklings Studies! www.euppublishing.com/journal/ink

It feels like code bytes would be interesting to see separated from (for example) image data bytes, which should (I would think) have a very different distribution

THIS WEEKEND, I HAD TO MAKE AN OVERSIZED SCREEN FOR A PORCH WINDOW.
IT INVOLVED COUNTLESS TINY PROBLEMS, EACH SOMEHOW WAY HARDER THAN IT SHOULD BE.
OBLIQUE ANGLES.
CURVED EDGES.
NONCOPLANARITY.

...I SOLVED THEM ALL.
I MEASURED PRECISELY.
I DID TRIGONOMETRY.
I MADE CUSTOM PARTS.
AND IT FIT PERFECTLY.
NO GAPS, NO RIPPLES.
I KNOW THAT YOUR FOUNDATION NORMALLY LIMITS ITS PURVIEW TO PHYSICS, MEDICINE, PEACE, CHEMISTRY, AND LITERATURE.
HOWEVER, IF YOU REVIEW THE ATTACHED PHOTOS SHOWING HOW WELL THE SCREEN FITS INTO THE...
There’s Ted and Alan of course, but here’s one by Barthelemy Aupetit that I really like

And if you have registered to attend in-person, but haven't booked your room yet, go do that now: the link is available from our event page - theprancingponypodcast.com/moot/.

Time travel idea planted over a beer with the physicist neighbor…?
Now I need to see what hints there might be in Tolkien’s musings from that era!
