every week I am forced to read a headline like ‘GDP grows in boon to Rachel Reeves’ or GDP shrinks in blow to Chancellor’ and meanwhile absolutely jack shit in real life has changed, prices still up, everyone broke and scared, like has anyone considered that GDP very obviously doesn’t fucking matter

the #ukLandRegistry is still only 85% complete. The #ukGov doesn’t know who owns vast swathes of England and Wales. Its the biggest blocker to a #landValueTax @uklabour.bsky.social time to legislate for mandatory registration. Unregistered land should be sold off by the local authorities.

The #treasury needs to get a handle on proper means testing so #welfare goes to those needing it. That would mean they would have to know a lot more about individuals’ finances.

but thats what they do. Tories believe in small government so they give all the money to private companies, often run by cronies. Labour waste huge amounts too, but at least that money usually goes to people’s salary

we constantly hear that its hard to repatriate or judge an asylum claim because many arrivals have thrown their identity documents away. how about offering those that arrive with papers the right to work whilst they are being processed. win win. #asylumSeekers #immigration

In the furore abt whether #china is a threat or not, one journalist said yesterday they’d been told China may have been responsible for a cyber attack on the #NHS, to me that makes no sense, why wld they want to, I’d be looking west for bad intentions to the NHS

Starmer & Reeves with their growth mantra is based on a bigger cake, more to distribute. Recent history gives no basis for that assumption. The exact opposite. The mega rich, corporations, politicians will continue milking it. The rest of us will be offered as few scraps as they can get away with.

We’ve heard Stephen Miller call out acts of ‘judicial terrorism’. that’s the kind of incendiary rhetoric that @robertjenrickmp.bsky.social seems to be on a journey towards. The Judiciary works if it’s independent from politics. these two don’t seem to like that independence when it doesn’t fit.
