that's how I got my start. I had zero applicable experience. I just had an English BA out of college and 3 years of teaching experience and bit of marketing experience. i ended up being hired to do J-E localization check, and eventually marketing. It grew from there.

Not all companies will do it, but there are game companies hiring for planners, QA, etc. I can't speak for the job market now, but there are companies that exclusively hire people with no experience looking to get their foot in the door.

It was luck in my case. I'm not special. I just happened to meet the right people when I was a teacher in Osaka. Like all things work related, it's being in the right place and knowing the right people.

There are a non-zero number of foreigners working at companies like Capcom, Nintendo, Square Enix, CyGames etc. It's not impossible!

That's how i got my start in the game industry! Same with a lot of my friends. It does require connections to get your way in as a foreigner, but there are lots of networks created for foreigners to make those connections (I can also intro people)

It's a very different game now. A much better one. I highly recommend checking it out. It's on PS Plus Extra too, so the barrier for entry is super low.

New World is now #29 in the Top Played Steam games, and in the Top 10 for Best Selling on Steam. This is an incredible turn around for AGS. They've done an impeccable job getting the game back on the rails. Kudos to everyone involved. It's been awesome coming back to the game after 3 years away.

Most people who work in games in Japan start out as English teachers for a company, and then switch jobs. Big plus if you have Japanese ability. It's easier to apply for jobs and get accepted if you're already in the country. :)
