This is replacing my "what matters now is upholding the law" pinned post for unfortunately obvious reasons.
It's been simmering for a while, but I think this ruling finally settles it.

There is no rule of law in America. There is only power.

Republicans have the power and want to use it to hurt us.
This thing is driving around Seattle right now
I would really love an edit button on this site
The Tea Party put less than 10% of that in the streets and it was treating as a juggernaut.
Did they actually do anything to intervene in the CA guard deployment? Honest question - it's hard to keep track of all that is happening.
I've always found the concept of "manufactured consent" a little conspiratorial, but if the shoe fits...
It is in fact wild how much larger the anti-Trump protests are than the 2010-era anti-Obama protests (today's protests are probably 2 orders of magnitude larger), and how much less the media cares about the former compared to the latter.
We are experiencing mass protests literally unrivaled in US history on a regular basis - protests that MAGA and the right cannot even come close to mimicking - and somehow they have convinced everyone else that it's a goofy sideshow. I assure you we wouldn't think that if the protesters had red hats

Part of how MAGA has successfully downplayed popular resistance to Trump is by trivializing protests as somehow fake, unlike "real" historical protests. Too many old people, too many women, too many funny signs. Don't help them do that. You are living through history, it didn't stop in 1968
The median voter/human is also completely innumerate, which is why Trump has repeatedly said he's lowered drug prices by "500%".
I'm gonna have to ask you to turn in your Politics Nerd badge and gun.
I just wish, even once, people would ask which wars he's talking about.

Every single person who actually shows up to a protest is contributing more than all the online protest critiquers combined
"who he right attacks, we defend"

How hard is this??? Its a very simply rule!

If the right is attacking, we are defending.

Anyway, i will be there are Saturday in my portland frog costume
Calling the other side terrorists is a hell of a negotiating strategy.

We often say Congress has the power of the purse, a framing coming from the Federalist Papers. But to be technical, it is federal law that has the power of the purse. Appropriations bills are laws! Rather than a fight between branches, it's better to think of this as a question of the rule of law.
"No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.”
-Article 1, Section 8, US Constitution

Not a "norm" violation. A legal and constitutional violation.
Leavitt: "President Trump had to tap into tariff revenue to get WIC money out the door for vulnerable women, infants, and children/"
Even if you were to permanently zero out all foreign aid I suspect the median voter will still assuming half of their taxes are going to undeserving foreigners.
There is simply no world in which we have free and fair elections and the right never ever wins. I'm all for blocking/jailing Trumpists, but if you believe in democracy you need to accept that you won't always be in power.

Someone just asked me what this might look like. Well, I suggest Dems could go into these cultural spaces and say, "Look, we have an alternative. We don't have to live this way. All of you chafing under this jackbooted thuggery have an ally in us." Like this:

ICE's military raids and masked kidnappings are resonating deeply/negatively in the cultural spaces we keep hearing Dems need to reach: Manosphere, Joe Rogan, country music, disengaged voters. That's rare and it gives Dems a big opening to engage.

Thoughts on this:

Evangelical atheists are just argumentative assholes.

The nicest thing about being an atheist is that I don't actually feel the need to convert you or talk about religion at all. My only request is that you return the favor.
Every MAHA and MAHA-adjacent person I've known has been an ignoramus. They lead boring lives and like to find excitement by leaning into conspiracies and mystical nonsense.

Unfortunately, reality is only apparent *after* elections.
I feel like Will Stancil makes a lot of insightful points, sone banal insights, and some dumb mistakes. That's a pretty normal social media experience, but with Stancil it seems to spark a hatred that burns hotter than a thousand suns in some folk.
Republicans held 7 CA seats after 2018. The party absolutely cares about the potential of a nuclear CA gerrymander.
