Consistent regular reminder that empathy for your fellow human being is a huge act of resistance. Care about people beyond just your friends and family. Care about strangers you've never met. Show them daily kindness. Remind everyone that suspicion and hosility should not be the baseline.

love all this. people underestimate how much of this part:

> Capitulating all kinds of decisions like where to go on vacation, what to wear today, who to date, what to eat.

...is, like google search ads, businesses want to intercept and answer that by who pays the most

also 👇🏼 🧵 for a second quote
Author and filmmaker Justine Bateman on generative AI
"They're trying to convince people they can't do the things they've been doing easily for years - to write emails, to write a presentation. Your daughter wants you to make up a bedtime story about puppies - to write that for you." We will get to the point, she says with a grim laugh, "that you will essentially become just a skin bag of organs and bones, nothing else. You won't know anything and you will be told repeatedly that you can't do it, which is the opposite of what life has to offer. Capitulating all kinds of decisions like where to go on vacation, what to wear today, who to date, what to eat.
People are already doing this. You won't have to process grief, because you'll have uploaded photos and voice messages from your mother who just died, and then she can talk to you via AI video call every day. One of the ways it's going to destroy humans, long before there's a nuclear disaster, is going to be the emotional hollowing-out of people." - author and filmmaker Justine Bateman from a piece by Emine Saner for the Guardian
Unravel fascism, not anti-fascism.
And before anyone gets any ideas, I am not saying that No Kings should be lionized over other organizing. Nor that it's The Superior Way to do things. Again: it's pulling on one of the threads and that's fine.
"But these libs are being performative" Then let them perform and take all the focus while you do some other stuff in the background. That's my hot take.
Do what you're passionate about. Do as much as you can. Focus on how you can help. That's what's most important. Litigating "the right way" to oppose the regime is not helpful IMO.
I mean, if the admin feels like they have to make these protests look bad, then it's at least effective on a narrative level. Which is an important one to be effective on.
Protest discourse gets really tiring sometimes. I think it's possible for No Kings and more direct action-y organizing to exist at the same time. The tapestry of anti-fascism has many threads and we should all do what we can to unravel it from as many angles as possible.

This is actually what causes the next schism
Someone in the crowd: “Go Cubs!”

Pope Leo XIV: “Han perdido! They lost!”

The Stalin Tits came out at me like a jumpscare.
If LLM marketing was actually honest about the technology's capability "it's a chatbot that can mimic human speech extremely well." then no one would care. They have to make AI out to be your own personal on-demand Jarvis in order to make a profit, which! it's not!
Truly my biggest gripe with LLMs is not "this technology is horrible and should not exist" and more "LLMs are occupying a space in our lives that's activiely harmful and being pushed by wealthy interests for reasons that do not align with the average consumer."

Damn i cant believe twitter and youtube died on the same day
Tragically, I only realized this after hitting Send. The poster's curse.
I really should read the name of the poster, shouldn't I?
This is just a joke I don't get, right? Right??????
For greater context, everything I just mentioned is either happening this month or has a deadline of sometime this month. 🥲
ALSO, I promised I'd make a poster for the conference I made earlier, but I haven't found the time between everything else I'm doing and now I gotta do it in two days and I might be panicking...?
The lack of Halloween decoration is making me so sad. I love Halloween! Goddamn I am overworkibg myself.
Chat, am I doing too many things?
Me: Why do I feel so tired and like I don't wanna do anything?

Also Me: Gotta finish this costume, work on writing magazine, pack for conference, fill out a job application, renew my drivers license, get my car state inspection, put up Halloween decoration, also it's my birthday soon.
I was gonna do my daily "sew and watch" with @jellesmarbleruns.bsky.social in the background and glad this isn't a me issue.
YouTube is in fact shidding the bed.
