But for real, they don’t vote on anything binding. What’s the legal outcome of a court saying they broke open meetings, they have to redo a non binding vote?

Hahah need to check that song out. I don’t work a computer/phone job, so I just be chilling on my commute. For me it’s a great time to read, be reflective, meet neighbors, etc. When we’re freed of the responsibility of controlling a two ton personal murder machine, the possibilities are endless.

Idk, but it is a great way to silence voices and the work of a small community trying to make our streets safer and save lives.

What we don't account for as the public is the fact that these improvements follow development, not public will or safety.
Just like East Nashville and now North Nashville, the secret third thing they're waiting on is displacement by gentrification.

Requests a case study of when Dickerson Pike intersection improvements design started, how much has been spent to date, when design is expected to be complete, etc.

NDOT says they can provide some additional information in future meetings.

I know! Bus boys! I’m just very aware that there’s a chance we don’t even get to Bronze level BRT, and that time fluctuation will continue to be a mental crutch to not choose transit. We have to emphasize frequency improvements as a huge benefit and reason to switch modes.

That’s 17 - 30 minutes of lost productivity. 17-30 minutes of stress. Could be working or doing anything else on the bus.

Some of those treatments are relatively cheap—speed cushions are often estimated around $5,000 to install. If a driver awareness campaign spends $150,000, that is about 30 fewer speed cushions, when Nashville has a backlog of over 600 requests!

As Chris noted, last night NDOT presented to VZAC a public service announcement campaign that was intended to encourage safer driving behavior. I agree with the message of all three videos shown, but I want to explain why this is also a poor use of resources.

Total production costs were ~$15,000, for all three PSA's.

Media budget for distribution is $140,000, including TV ads, social media, wrapping a bus, etc.

VZAC Charlie asks about a Halloween specific awareness, since it's typically the most dangerous night of the year for children.

VZAC Kim U is now recommending that we remove the "Make Eye Contact" signs that have been proliferating around downtown and on 3rd Ave.

She feels that the cartoon nature of the signs trivializes the fatal crash that recently occurred there and isn't productive in any case.
themanaen.bsky.social
Maybe we should keep the stop signs that everyone likes and use that 350,000 or whatever from the PHB to address the other areas of need?
cbowe34.bsky.social
Although the community is supportive of just keeping the stop signs, that would violate traffic engineering standards.

Cool system we have here.

Anyway, the HAWK is cool but probably unnecessary for this context.

Robin is now holding court on the lack of equity in the city's response to fatal crashes.

NDOT shares the challenges they face in responding to so many unique issues across the county.

VZAC Robin now speaking from the heart about the need for a more standardized response to pedestrian deaths countywide.

Previous deaths on this road make it clear that this road is too dangerous to remain as is. Will anything happen in the wake of this latest tragedy?

I WILL always elevate my neighbors voices when laws are unjust & I will use my privilege to pursue change. I am so TIRED of change happening w/o truly seeking what the community wants. Recently…rezoning of schools, towing when one forgets its street sweeping day (no signage), broken promises & more!

We take a few minutes to introduce ourselves to new member, Eric Hoke, who is attending his first meeting as a member of the VZAC!

It's also Kim Unertl's first official meeting, though she's been with us for the past few meetings.

It's Vision Zero Advisory Committee meeting night!

Follow along on this thread for highlights.

An agenda was not sent out ahead of time and the agenda presented by NDOT staff doesn't match our chair's agenda that he submitted two weeks ago, so who knows what we'll talk about this time!

Choosing the wrong way to move reflects poorly on you.
Your decision to drive, when viable transit exists, is either purely illogical or a clear expression of classism and racism.

If you live less than a football field from a frequent bus route that runs every ten minutes, BRT isn’t going to change anything.
You could be commuting on that route today(on your phone, on your computer, getting to know your city better) instead of wasting your life in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
