Gleichschaltung, coming to an institution near you. Faster than you can learn to spell "Gleichschaltung."

my dying words will be that france in 1914 lost almost all of its iron ore and most of its industry and still managed to make shells.

Haldemão: [inaudível]

Salazar: Sim, os gays também.

"Well, everyone knows Eratosthenes calculated the circumference of the earth 1,700 years ago. What this voyage presupposes is, maybe he didn't."

Demonstrating once again that, by holding that partisan gerrymandering is a nonjusticiable “political question,” SCOTUS set up a situation in which voters and their representatives are essentially punished in Congress if they choose to run their own states fairly.

North Carolina Republicans announced today they’re going to pass a new congressional map to draw a Dem out of Congress; they already did last cycle, going from 7-7 to 10-4. Thus would be 11-3. t.co/XLJIhe8vZn

Looks like we're setting new records for the most disgusting spectacle by a US president.

an underrated problem Bari Weiss has is that there is a tension between "effective propaganda" and "media the regime will approve of"

"Dictators first" is America's foreign and domestic policy.
thefred.bsky.social
Believe it or not, it used to be taboo for a US president to go abroad and cozy up to dictators to trash domestic political opponents in a press conference. Pretty much never happened. Republicans would have demanded Obama be arrested for treason.

Trump on Egypt: "They have very little crime. Because they don't play games. That's why. Like we do in the United States with governors that have no idea what they're doing."

You can try to increase the viewership of your third-place and declining broadcast news division, or you can turn it into partisan opinion slop like cable except with no talent, but I am skeptical you can do both.
thefred.bsky.social
Sorry, but no, the average viewer of CBS News, aged 78, does not want to have 23 year-old political opinion bloggers now presenting news stories.
thefred.bsky.social
The first thing I would not have done if I were trying to save CBS News' ratings is keep the "Free Press" brand but apparently dual-label all its contributers as both Free Press and CBS News and thereby confuse everyone while also diluting CBS with a bunch of opinion bloggers.
newsjennifer.bsky.social
CBS News would never put a thinly sourced 'story' by a rookie blogger like this on it's air. Until now. The Free Press isn't a journalism outlet, it's bloggers aren't reporters. This piece is more NYPost than Tiffany Network but I guess that's the goal.
