I thought Y7 might need a warm up to the task in the first picture, so I modelled a couple and got them to try their own numbers on MWB. Brilliantly, someone happened to get 23, 24 and 23. After such a near miss they were all very motivated to try and get a perfect triplet! #MathsToday
Try different values of a and b.
For each set, can you make the values of the expressions the same?

1)
3a + 5
4(b + 1)
8a - 5b

2)
a + 3b+2
2a + b
a + b + 10

3)
5b - 3a
2b + 5a
11a - b + 6 Modelled substitution for the first set of three.
First row: a=5, b=2
Second row: a=10, b=1
Third row: a=6, b=5, which gives values of 23,24,23

Planning my Halloween jack-o-lantern display. Pretty spooky stuff if you're a math teacher. Do you like just the numbers or the numbers with a creapy smile underneath? (two versions from two different AI image generators). #ITeachMath

Did this with my year 13s in #Alevelmaths as a gentle warm up.

Getting them to guess what f(x) and g(x) was and to find each area depending on their functions was less gentle! #Mathstoday

Halloween is just around the corner. I made a Halloween treat esti-mystery to share with students. #ITeachMath docs.google.com/presentation...
A 2L bucket is filled with Halloween candy... how many pieces of candy are there? The first two of six clues are revealed. Clue #1 - the answer is a three digit number. Clue #2 - The answer is an even number.

Start your week with this #yohaku. Fill in cells with 9 different factors of 198 to get totals shown in each row/column. #mathsky #iTeachMath
Use 9 different factors of 198 in a 3 by 3 grid. The numbers in the top row add to 39. The numbers in the middle row add to 119. The numbers in the bottom row add to 13. The numbers in the left column add to 14. The numbers in the middle column add to 33. The numbers in the right column add to 124.

Year 10 found expressions for shaded areas.
Made this last year for an extension but it was nice spending a bit longer on it.

There are over 1500 distinct activities on the Transum Mathematics web site. However you'll be pleased to know that there is a search page. It's not AI so works best when you use just one or two words.

Created a binary number esti-mystery. Students practicing powers by working with binary and base 10 number conversions. The final clue is a bit of a giveaway. Check out this site for lots of examples: stevewyborney.com/category/est... #ITeachMath #MathsToday
A box of marbles. Students estimate the number of marbles with binary numbers. 5 clues are given, one at a time, for students to revise their estimate.
