Basic mental state of 🫠💔🚮 continues… which I think is a reasonable response to the situation.

I kinda lost track of the metaphors b/c I have the attention span of a gnat but the point is, the classifications we make about ANYTHING to make sense of the world are inexact.

All brains are different and present differently. That’s a GOOD thing. Individual variety is group resilience is species survival.

“These are NOT illnesses stamped onto brains w/inevitable presentation of a given symptom set.”

While it is important to understand how ADHD & Autism can present when "together" we must remember that these diagnoses are really a myth to make it make sense

These are NOT to illnesses stamped onto brains w/ inevitable presentation of a given symptom set

Republicans afraid of losing power will just outlaw non-Republicans from voting and then call it democracy because “people voted.”
thedaybooks.bsky.social
Ah, the poison seed of Republicanism. The voting rights act. Some of those justices have probably been waiting their entire lives to overturn it.

Tomorrow the US Supreme Court will hear a Republican-led challenge to the Voting Rights Act which was enacted 60 years ago to prevent racial discrimination in voting, Reuters Legal reports.

I mean, speaking about Alabama, many of them do not have Internet access at home. They don’t have phones. We’re talking about one of the poorest states in the US. A lot of rural areas don’t have Internet access. If they have Internet access at school, Websites and keywords may be blocked.

But yes, their information literacy skills are not highly developed coming out of most high schools, I would say
thedaybooks.bsky.social
Sure, but this isn’t about that, it’s about what they’re taught in schools and how southern schools teach different stuff. Or just avoid teaching stuff. Sometimes really important stuff.

Or their organizations. Or like, Al Jazeera. Somebody who’s actually trying to help.

I spend all day teaching young adults and then I come to the internet to see that meanwhile, adult politicians have been acting worse than toddlers. All of the children, teens, and YAs I know behave better than these grown adults.

& this is a life-or-death public health issue since not understanding one’s body can contribute to unplanned pregnancies in a region where abortion is almost impossible to obtain, and Southerners (particularly Black women) have significantly higher rates of maternal mortality.

Partly I ask them about what they learned so that southern students can see that other places do teach sex ed in high school and the students aren’t going to hell or anything. It is possible to have different policies about what is taught.
thedaybooks.bsky.social
Every semester I teach basic sex ed in my gender studies class, including asking students what they learned in HS. Southern students aren’t allowed to learn even basic anatomy or reproduction, and students from elsewhere often know much more.
