And so, it begins! (again). NEWS. The 8th edition of Psychology will be out in 2026! This means, I think, that I should start writing it.

'While researchers typically publish in academic journals and books, the authors found, higher education managers are more likely to consult practice-oriented journals, newsletters, conference inputs and social media platforms such as LinkedIn.'

Misread Prison Brides as Peston Brides on the EPG and that would be quite the 2-part series.

Speaking of glamour and mutilated bodies, the bloke on this carriage has spent the last seven stops puncturing the spots on his chest.

Next time an institution tells you how seriously it takes research misconduct, ask them if it's *this* seriously. www.bmj.com/content/297/...
In 1916 the BMJ published an article about the work done by James Shearer, an American physician working in the British Army as a sergeant (because he had no British qualification). He had described a
"delineator" which was better than x rays for portraying gunshot wounds. This caused a sensation and a lot of interest — but on investigation the work was found to have been invented. The BMJ published a retraction, but Shearer was tried by court martial and sentenced to death by firing squad.

I definitely have those Save It energy stickers (tho those might be from the 70s come to think of it :) )

I was in the stalls sitting next to a glamourpuss and, for most of the film (and it was a long film to be the most of), all I could concentrate on was her perfume. Which was exquisite. At the end, I asked her what it was so I’ve added another potion to my bestiary of olfactory delights 😍

Sumptuous (obviously), terrific performances (obviously), does what previous films have not done with Frankenstein (well, yes and no), could do with temporal shaving? (obviously, again). Very promethean monster, and reminds you of Last V of the Demeter

Can I make a tiny suggestion? Excrement in a toilet bowl is desirable because where else would you want it? I know what the q wants to ask but adding “unflushed” makes this clear. For wording consistency, I’d write “…chocolates in a bowl” because bowl of chocolates is a trope (and consistency etc)

Make an effect size prediction!

@jamiecummins.bsky.social and I are replicating Balcetis & Dunning's (2010) "chocolate is more desirable than poop" (Cohen's d = 4.52)

Let us known in the replies what effect size you think we'll find. Details of the study in the thread below.

Very much. Me and another keen observer on here are particularly joyful about pop psychology bollocks masquerading as scholarship.

Anyone writing about the influence of these thinkers really needs to provide detail on what they have actually written. Most of it is incoherent, lacking any substance and often downright weird.

Reading Thiel, Yarvin, Peterson et al. makes you realise what passes for intellectual iconoclasm these days is all absolute bollocks. Why anyone gives any of these people the time of day let alone credibility is baffling.

This does nothing to undermine the hypothesis that the 1970s was a decade of sex offenders.

So much talk of economics and far right radicalisation but my increasingly view is we are all - myself included - underestimating the impact of both internet culture and (more importantly) the economics of the internet/social media on politics and radicalisation

Last night I heard of another friend of a friend who has been lost to a rabbit hole of online propaganda. We need to start treating this as a serious public health concern.
