Mandarin kèqì (客气) and Korean noonchi (눈치) feel so similar to me. Mostly because the first time I heard these words, it was years apart, but in the exact same context: someone offering the last bite of food from a plate in the middle of a table (ex: don't be so 눈치)

For myself, I make the most ungodly substitutions, like using greek yogurt instead of heavy cream and my "healthy" pasta ends up tasting like glue 💀 But when cooking for others I pull out ALL the stops. Sauces, msg, butter, fancy ingredients, secret recipes- I stand on business!! 😤
