Which then made sense, because that character I played who “had a Muppet-y voice” was greatly inspired by Muppet performer Jerry Nelson, who plays far more than “just a couple” Muppets. 🤣

It’s fascinating to me how iconic these performer’s *ranges* are, not just their individual characters.

old Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, etc., the voices of Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Dave Goelz, Richard Hunt, etc. are EVERYWHERE, from lead characters to one-line extras, so I think their vocal qualities and ranges are associated with Muppets a lot, logically.

I was actually thinking about this myself after a friend said I gave a character a “Muppet-y voice,” and thought a bit about what that meant.

If we’re speaking *purely* on vocal quality, I think a lot of it also has to do with the fact that when you’re watching the original Muppet Show, (cont.)

Animation audition today and I had a stray thought: "Your voice is getting Muppet-y here," and I had to reflect on that after because it felt like it might conceal an important insight. So what do I think it means to have a Muppet-y voice?
