For #WorldPhotographyDay I'd like to share my favorite image I've taken this year.

#Toronto harbour froze after weeks of negative temps, I decided to do a photo day on the islands in February. A snowstorm started and the cityscape disappeared, but as I ventured out onto the ice, it revealed itself.
a mother and child, who i do not know, were standing on the frozen lake against the cityscape of Toronto during a snowstorm.
I had been waiting for a composition like this to appear, its why I ventured onto the frozen lake. Pic taken Sunday Feb 2 2025.

I was heading to a Cinematheque showing on Saturday evening and the Kantara show was letting out at the same time. Very popular movie with the diaspora, a lot of fans were out to see it on the big screen. I'm tempted because they namechecked RRR in advertising.

I think this is Cherry Beach's lifeguard house? Still lovely though.

A composite #Moonrise over #Toronto last Wednesday. The Moon is shown over about a 15 minute span with almost 3 minutes between each copy of the Moon. I found it interesting for the color shifted during the rise.

Nightscape of Toronto and the CN Tower. It's a composite image showing the Moon at 6 different elevations, including one aligned with the CN Tower. The buildings were photographed blue hour and still have the golden glow of the Sun reflecting of them.

When I did that hike around emerald lake in summer 22 I think we only saw about five people, and incredible views in every direction.
Signed post for emerald lake loop

I think a lot of people think the point of sports is that your team will win and then you will be happy. That is not the point of sports. The point of sports is to be sad in a group

Amazon Canada still has stock, we can send them down Niagara Falls to help.

Just checked on Amazon Canada, seems like a hot seller up here too, maybe to send to our friends in the States.

I live on a side street that got a contraflow bike lane a few years ago and I've noticed kids learning to ride with parents, wobbling along first and then getting their confidence over the summer. Really confirms that if we build bike lanes, they will come.

The spread to the suburbs has been so smart. The other week I was deep in Scarborough’s highland creek and there were teenagers barreling down the path on them. Many cycling seeds planted.

Bike share revenue is up over 30% compared to last year, and now has close to 300k unique customers. That is 10% of the population of Toronto! I also think that their internal forecasts are a little pessimistic pinning 2025 rides at 8.1 million. I forecast closer to 8.3M when the year is over.

I'm being told the multi course dinner tonight is not part of the Hungry Ghost Festival, but something called ... Thanksgiving?
Still picture from Chinese ghost story that I watched this weekend

The Leslie Street Spit was built the rubble of Toronto's past now a great park Love seeing the creativity that people can do with the scattered material and them knowing the lakes wave will take it away eventually.

Weird thing is I just watched a movie yesterday called Donkey Skin where one character kept clearing her throat and spitting out a frog.

Missing the fog lately, so here's one from my favorite tree in Toronto from the archives.

Riverdale Park, 2007.
The famous tree in Riverdale Park East with fog filling the valley. Taken on my 6mp Nikon d70s. I believe a couple of trees have been planned since obscuring the view

October 12: All along the coast of Lake Ontario, people have reported a strange odor. Occasionally reports of the smell are coupled with sightings of weird mushroom like creatures spewing out a poisonous fog. The fog is deadly in high concentrations fortunately the smell keeps most people away.
Strange fungus creature that spews out a poisonous mist.

That's Colin Geddes btw, who used to be the Midnight Madness programmer at tiff and then did the Kung Fu Fridays series which got me hooked way back when. Super nice of him to share his knowledge and amazing collection of paraphernalia.

Really looking forward to the tiff screening with Paul Meyers discussing this book and screening one of John's best films, planes trains and automobiles
