It is disgusting to see a woman's income stream being used against her by her ex. This is why sex workers do not disclose their work and cannot step out of the shadows to advocate. There are dire real-world consequences when they do. Shame on this man.

this is so critical - the problem with these laws that theoretically criminalise buyers of sex is that either sex workers get criminalised too, or sex workers are forced to work in more dangerous situations, increasingly their likelihood of harm and the potential severity of that harm.

Age verification tools that rely on biometric data, such as uploading selfies, are biased and enhance discrimination based on gender, race or disability. The Online Safety Code, which came into effect recently, has introduced age verification for certain platforms.

📅 Today is World Contraception Day.

Ireland is hypocritical when it comes to contraception. On the one hand, it funds organisations to give out free condoms, and on the other, it allows Gardaí to use condoms as evidence that sex work has occurred.

Historically, brothel keeping laws in Ireland have overwhelmingly been used to prosecute individual sex workers working with friends for safety, as opposed to persons who are brothel managers or owners.

The Irish media is reporting an increase in brothel keeping prosecutions based on this PQ reply. What we DO NOT KNOW is WHO is being prosecuted for brothel keeping. How many are people working as sex workers? www.oireachtas.ie/en/debates/q...

Sex workers raised the issue of stigma, spoke about how sex work allows them to have a normal life and reiterated the call for decriminalisation.

We're continuing to highlight SWAI's work. In 2016, we created a social media campaign to do what the government doesn't: to allow sex workers to speak for themselves.

Holy Mother-forking Shirt Balls! This is what comes from how disconnected I am by my situation. Somehow I didn't even hear this happened, and it's epic.

When I remember back to the days of SESTA/FOSTA first darkening doorsteps, and how hopeless a fight it felt sometimes, this is truly remarkable.

Speaking at the event in parliament, the woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “This law isolates us. We cannot work together because of the brothel-keeping law and we cannot properly support each other for risk of seeing as controlling or profiting off of each other.

This is how sex workers should be treated by society. Not scandalised, not stigmatised, not rejected or subjected to religious fundamentalists as is the case here in Ireland.
