My story on how one of Jeff Gorton's earliest memories of the Canadiens while growing up as a Boston Bruins fan involved Ken Dryden and it wasn't a good one. Now he's in charge of building another Habs Stanley Cup team: montrealgazette.com/sports/hocke...
Jeff Gorton's road from Habs heartbreak to guiding team back to glory

Before every Canadiens home opener I like to remember the late, great Red Fisher, whose Hall of Fame photo hangs in media lounge at Bell Centre. I wouldn’t have the job I have now if Red hadn’t taken a chance on a young kid many years ago.

Zachary Bolduc said he will have about 20 friends and family members at Bell Centre tonight for his first home opener with the #Habs. Each player will have their own pre-game introduction song. “It’s going to be a French one, that’s for sure," Bolduc said. "A song from Quebec."

Link to my column on Canadiens owner Geoff Molson signing Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes to five-year contract extensions. They have shown how being honest and straightforward with people is a good way to build any business, including an NHL team #Habs: montrealgazette.com/sports/hocke...
Cowan: Canadiens have rebuilt a model franchise from the top down
Extending the contracts of Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes should ensure franchise stability for at least the next six seasons.

#Habs owner Geoff Molson made a very smart move Tuesday by signing Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes to five-year contract extensions. Gorton's title will change to president of hockey operations, while Hughes will remain as general manager. montrealgazette.com/sports/hocke...

Happy birthday to former Canadiens defenceman Sylvain Lefebvre, who turns 58 today. He coached #Habs AHL farm team for six seasons in Hamilton, St. John's and Laval and is now an assistant coach with the Florida Panthers, earning Stanley Cup rings in each of the last two seasons.

Depends ... there's no specific date for bonuses. Often it's Sept. 1. That was the case with Carey Price.

The Canadiens are asking fans to be in their seats at Bell Centre for Tuesday night's home opener against the Seattle Kraken by 6:50 p.m. so they won't miss pre-game ceremony that will include a tribute to former #Habs goalie Ken Dryden, who died last month at age 78.

My updated story on Lane Hutson agreeing to an eight-year, $70.8-million contract extension with the Canadiens that has an annual salary-cap hit of $8.85 million and why it's a win/win situation for both sides: montrealgazette.com/sports/hocke...

The Blue Jackets gave him five years at $5.5 million per season. Habs weren't going to pay him that or give him that much term with his age and history of injuries.

LOL. Maybe they will be.

While there's always a lot of talk about the tax situation in Quebec for #Habs players, they are also earning U.S. dollars and converting them to Canadian dollars living here. So $9.5 million U.S. Noah Dobson is earning as highest-paid player converts to $12.6 million Canadian.
