But more likely the conflict will involve the robber barons who have been granted near state-equivalent control over land related to their business, designated as 'necessary for national security.'

Largely depends on what people get up to. The most notorious thing is that there's Prohibition in effect, so if the characters decide to do some bootlegging, that'll be a conflict.
It's a sort of fantasy dieselpunk alt history world so they're about equal to the ones in the 1920-1930 era.

In the US, New Year's, Christmas, Independence, Washington's birthday, Thanksgiving, and Labor Day are the national ones. No Veterans or Memorial days yet.

Sooo after talking with a few people, I made a thing, mostly cause said thing is easier to make and share stuff as a hub than a whole website, but for the time being, I plan on everything being free. I don't think I make stuff that I wanna put behind a paywall.

#2. Borrow from Adventure! There, you'd give players advance knowledge of what NPCs are going to say, so they can have snappy responses ready.

Steal the idea and give players of smart characters some advance knowledge or extra clues (for puzzles) before game, to make it easier on them.
Two ideas for DMs to help players depict smart characters:

#1. Put puzzles in your games. But not just any puzzles- ask the player what kind they're best at. Put those into the game, in some form. Lean into their skill set. Sudoku, cryptography, etc.

#2. Borrow from Adventure! (cont'd.)

I don't think there are any that I really fear (I lucid dream in nightmares, so I spend the entire time complaining about the cliches; I'm a bit peculiar) although I expect that would change significantly if they were real.
Thank you, it was an accident. I was just trying to come up with a way to discourage people from using speak with dead that worked with my worldbuilding.

I realize I overshot that a bit.
The dead slept in an aquatic afterlife, a la Inside, and anytime someone used magic to communicate with them, they woke up. Once the communication ended, they had to effectively drown to fall back into eternal slumber.
Based on others' reactions, I'm going to go with something I've mentioned before: the fact that the god of the dead was also the god of the ocean, and what that meant for the afterlife.

Aether exposure can cause goblinization (and high doses can lead to a very painful death due to rapid alterations), but it can also allow for some individuals to develop magical abilities.

So, drink this and you might become a wizard, temporarily. Or a minotaur. Or die.
Paleontology has started picking out the pieces and realizing what's what, but of yet 'this used to be a fantasy Earth before there were people' has not been realized.
Current one is basically alternative modern fantasy- during the Paleozoic eras the world has high levels of magic fauna and flora. Mass-extinction events eliminate that, and you end up with a magic fossil fuel called aether. The potential of that is discovered in the late 1800s.

There's an emergent species due to aether pollution which is similar- it's a predator which mimics herd animals to hunt. It generally avoids urban areas and humanity, but in more rural areas, people are learning to be very wary of quiet strangers who walk into town...

Generally 'fiends' are individuals who have undergone goblinization due to aether exposure and developed traits a particular religion has associated with evil. So it can vary widely, although it tends to be fairly homogenous in a given culture (due to how goblinization works).
Have you looked at Canvas of Kings by any chance? That might be of use.

At one point I had the idea of using MTG cards drawn randomly as a method for basic worldbuilding, separating them out by general type and then laying them out. Land cards first, then summons, artifacts, etc. for points of interest/populations etc.
