I've always said this, but since last November, I've been pointing this out frequently in whatever venues to whatever audiences I can: "The planet NASA studies most is Earth."

A lot of comments on Mars rovers or Moon landings, but it's important to remember that the planet NASA studies most is Earth. This is less about cutting flashy things like moonwalks and more about keeping communities in the dark on climate, weather, agriculture, pollution, natural hazards, and more.

500 more highly-trained, tax-payer-invested scientists and researchers gone from JPL; truly so shameful

Tens of millions of people have died from Covid.

Every country should have responded with record investments in public health infrastructure.

Instead the US government is putting us all at greater risk of more catastrophes by firing hundreds of top scientists whose job is to prevent outbreaks.

there are no ethical billionaires etc. etc. but in the class war, I will be inviting miss swift to donate her $ to the cause and to switch sides (she'll say yes, no worries, she's a self-admitted "pathological people pleaser")

my thoughts on the new Taylor Swift album are that:
1. it's good
2. it's fun
3. taylor's whole brand has been being cringe
4. it's just some songs; it's not that deep
5. Opalite is my favorite
6. it hits different (better) if you listen to it in the California sunshine

As I attend these science talks about Rubin and Roman, I think a lot about how we should be over-investing into training new astronomers and setting community+infrastructure... we will have >>10x the data we've collected from ALL other telescopes COMBINED and we are gutting the community; shameful

1,257 ..... highly-educated scientists just gone from the workforce. Where are they to go? And even then, will they use their CDC/science knowledge in that job? Let alone the harm to their 1,257 individual lives - we invested so much tax-payer funding into their education... now simply wasted.

Per CDC source: At internal leadership meeting this afternoon, it was shared that 1,257 people were RIF'd at CDC. Number may not be final. Apparently, chief of staff was unaware that RIFs were going to occur so not clear who is making decisions. (Short 🧵)

You've probably heard how a high percentage of #Nobel laureates are immigrants. The US in particular has benefited from the influx of bright minds.

@jennaahart.bsky.social ran the data for this century's Nobel prizewinners — and shows more than 30% immigrated. 🧪

The most common destination for eventual Nobel laureates in physics, chemistry and medicine since 2000 is the United States, Nature has found.

Meeting of the Minds ⚔️

Love the energy of these guys, even if they’re still a little small to really challenge the big boys when push comes to shove.

Did you know that #seaotters have one of the most diverse diets in the animal kingdom? These clever marine mammals can eat up to 100 different types of invertebrates - including clams, crabs, sea urchins… and yes, sometimes even #octopus 🐙!
