I was going to do a starter pack of former diplomats who like mountaineering and geopolitics and seventeenth century music and Gloucester rugby but it turns out I'm the only person on it.

Oh God. I thought the main reason we Got Brexit Done was so we didn't have to hear any more bunkum from Shanker Singham.

Took me 5/6 and a map to look for a city that I admit never having heard of which has a population the size of London

But Biden could have tightened the screws. He didn't because he had a history of supporting Israel and that overcame his desire to do something for the hostages (which I'm sure he wanted to). But he could have done it.

Perhaps then the Nobel Peace prize should go to the family as a whole?
Is that how it works?

My favourite factoid is that there are more professional-standard theatres belonging to private day schools in London than there are in the whole of the West End.

As do often, Alex expresses concisely what many of us are surely thinking today.

Watching the Bibi & Don Show treat this like some grand victory, while people returning to northern Gaza dig the rubble for loved ones' remains, is pretty revolting.

If we can’t even talk in general terms about MPs’ workload- which MPs of all parties agree is v casework- heavy and getting heavier- without a lot of responses being to assume that MPs are not telling the truth/just whinging/ working on the wrong things etc- then I think we’re in a bad place

Your occasional reminder that 93% of UK parents do not send their children to a private school.
thetimes.com

Private school can feel like the only option when the state system isn’t meeting your child’s needs, but the financial burden goes far beyond school fees ⬇️
School fees were a shock, then came VAT, uniforms, trips …

My simple gauge of best city-ness is where the kids (defined broadly) want to go. London *was* that place for many European kids - but that’s effectively impossible now.

I’ve always believed that Eddie and Norbert are two different people and ultimately powerful mob-type bosses. Eddie controls Northern Europe, Norbert southern. Occasionally they meet in expensive restaurants overlooking white sand beaches to discuss how to carve up the road haulage sector.

Why isn't this a bigger story?
The joint intelligence committee prepare a report saying our national security is at risk from environmental collapse. And No. 10 bury because they don't to draw attention to how little they care!

In occupied Ukraine, toys like these stuffed with plastic explosives, are left by Russian soldiers.

This is terrorism, sanctioned by the Russian state.

Once Russia is defeated, it must never be able to wage such a war on its peaceful neighbours again.
