We are three crones who have been swapping smut since we were maidens and therefore spend a lot of time yelling about romance books. Primarily managed by Holly. Blog at smutreport.com

I promised lots of links to Ye Olde Blogge, so here's a round up of some of our greatest hits to get you started. 🧵
Oh absolutely the use they're making of the setting is a huge part of this.

(Don't want to say that Garwood didn't do any research, but, uh, Devereaux clearly did a lot of research about Medieval clothing and when functional buttons were introduced)
In The Bride, the clothes are symbols (she gets married in a black dress, lots of discussion of her wearing his plaid) but in The Black Lyon, the author spends a ton of time talking about buttons and what kind of stitches are used to sew people into clothes—much more about class and time period.
Your piece is super interesting partially because I also find the way romance authors use clothing super interesting.

A couple years ago I read The Bride and The Black Lyon back to back. Both are medieval romances but they describe clothes sooooo differently.
Lol, we talked about that one on the pod! We decided that we mostly assume that they're showering on the regular unless they explicitly did something where they get very dirty. Or if it's histrom, we just pretend.
I did read a book where the pet name was Babydoll, and I can't decide if that's worse.
I just grabbed a random selection of stuff that my library has, don't think I got any of those but I'll check! And I also read my first Cara McKenna earlier this year and…wow.
*taking notes*

I started with Control which was so wild and shocking and I cannot believe how many feelings she wrung out of me between (and during) all the sex.
I am SO EXCITED to delve into her extensive backlist
As someone who grew up in a very very humid place…who has time to worry about frizz? That's literally every single day.
OMG SAME. Angel might be my least favorite pet name.
I started with Control and I'm not sure it's adorable yet (I'm halfway through) there is a LOT of emotional stuff that's going on and I am digging it.
Flustered blushing? There's not an unusual level of detail but the way it's put together is something else
I was so furious when I started going to these circuit training classes at my yoga studio and suddenly was in a good mood and was sleeping better
I started with Control. You know, for your note taking purposes.
To be clear: I've read all kinds of kinky fuckery without a qualm and I am *blushing* over my morning coffee.
After reading Dealing with a Desperate Demon, I picked up a bunch of Charlotte Stein's backlist from the library.

I was not prepared for the level of filth.
