Every single time I read about her, I wonder what's wrong with him.

But Bezos’ ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, has shown that it is possible to effectively donate wealth at a far higher rate. As part of their 2019 divorce, Scott received a 4% stake in Amazon. The stake, worth about $36 billion at the time, made Scott one of the richest women in the world.

Within months of her divorce, Scott signed the Giving Pledge, saying that she would “act quickly on the impulse to give” and “keep at it until the safe is empty.” In the last six years, she has donated at least $19.25 billion to over 2,000 non-profits.

If men with guns and masks tried to pull me out of my car, I'd fight back. Courts should reject any claims by the government that this is aggression by the person being detained, resisting arrest, or that they're a flight risk.

The only reason we have a "bench" today is because voters chose good people 10-15 years ago for local offices. It not only positions those people for higher office, but also ensures that they can protect us and our democracy at a local level.

In the past couple of weeks, I've seen several stories on (unoccupied) houses in North Carolina being washed out to sea (and I feel for those homeowners). But I've seen almost no national news coverage of the Alaska floods.

I wasn't expecting to cry while reading this.

In June 2016, U.S. officials were insisting that Afghan troops were making progress against the Taliban. I was part of a team of NPR reporters that embedded with Afghan forces to find out if that official line was indeed true, trying to get the ground truth about what had become America's longest war. We were travelling in an Afghan convoy in western Afghanistan when we were ambushed. I lost two friends and NPR lost two brave colleagues, photographer David Gilkey and translator Zabihullah Tamanna, that day. Producer and colleague Monika Evstatieva and I were in that convoy, took small arms fire, but were unharmed. 

When we flew by helicopter to bring David and Zabi's bodies to a nearby American base, the U.S. general there ordered an honor cordon, a tribute that is usually reserved for fallen troops, not civilians from the United States and Afghanistan. Out of respect for two people who'd lost their lives in their line of duty, doing their jobs documenting the truth as journalists, U.S. soldiers lined up in the darkness on either side as David and Zabi were carried off the helicopter.  I fought hard not to weep at one of the most decent, humane, and heartfelt gestures I've ever seen.

I liked the advice below; it applies no matter what state you live in. But even if you don't live in MA, the first few paragraphs of this article are good for a laugh. (The old adage that “Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them being made” is wrong--you need to know how it's done.)

If you’re an aspiring activist who feels waving around a “No Kings” sign falls short of impactful activism, look at state government as an avenue for change. Lobbying your state rep will do far more than mailing a postcard to Wisconsin for a judicial election. Medicare for all is likely to happen here long before Congress secures a filibuster-proof majority.

Negative coverage does not mean biased coverage. Trump's coverage is negative because he does so many bad things. He is ripping up our Constitution, trashing our economy, and threatening our institutions and neighbors, all while taking every opportunity to enrich himself and reward his allies.
